Furadonin-LekT tablets
Furadonin-LekT tablets

Furadonin-LekT is an antimicrobial drug, nitrofuran, which is highly effective in the treatment of urinary tract infections.

Release form and composition

Dosage form - tablets: flat-cylindrical, round, yellow or yellow with a greenish tint, with a chamfer (in a cardboard box 1, 2 or 3 contour cell / non-cell packs containing 10 tablets, and instructions for use of Furadonin-LekT).

Composition of 1 tablet:

  • active substance: nitrofurantoin monohydrate - 50 mg;
  • auxiliary components: calcium stearate, colloidal silicon dioxide, potato starch.

Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics

Furadonin-LekT is one of the antimicrobial agents (nitrofuran group). First of all, the drug is intended for the treatment of urinary tract infections. The reduction of nitrofurantoin is carried out by bacterial flavoproteins to reactive compounds that inactivate or damage the proteins of bacterial ribosomes and other macromolecules. As a result, the processes of synthesis and aerobic respiration of the cell wall, protein, deoxyribonucleic and ribonucleic acids are disrupted.

The multiple mechanism of action characteristic of the drug is explained by the weak acquired resistance of microorganisms in relation to nitrofurans. Furadonin-LekT is effective against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, including Proteus mirabilis, Escherichia coli, Shigella Sonne, Shigella Boyd, Shigella Flexner, Grigoriev-Shigi bacteria, Streptococcus, Staphylococcus aureus.

Pharmacokinetics

Nitrofurantoin is characterized by good absorption from the gastrointestinal tract. Its bioavailability is 50% and depends on food (increases). The rate of absorption is influenced by the size of the crystals. The drug binds to blood plasma proteins at a level of 60%. The metabolic process is carried out in muscle tissue and liver.

The half-life of the drug from the plasma ranges from 20 to 25 minutes. Penetrates through the placenta, blood-brain barrier and into breast milk. Excretion in full is carried out by the kidneys (unchanged - from 30 to 50%).

Indications for use

Furadonin-LekT tablets are prescribed for the treatment of bacterial uncomplicated urinary tract infections, including cystitis and urethritis. Also, the drug is used to prevent infections during urological examinations (catheterization of the urinary tract, cystoscopy and others) or operations.

Contraindications

Absolute:

  • chronic hepatitis;
  • cirrhosis of the liver;
  • chronic heart failure II – III degree;
  • chronic renal failure;
  • acute porphyria;
  • deficiency of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase;
  • oliguria;
  • pulmonary fibrosis;
  • anuria;
  • pregnancy;
  • lactation period;
  • age up to 6 years and body weight less than 25 kg (for this dosage form);
  • established hypersensitivity to the drug components and nitrofuran derivatives.

Relative (taking Furadonin-LekT requires special care and careful medical supervision):

  • deficiency of B vitamins;
  • diabetes;
  • electrolyte disturbances;
  • anemia.

Furadonin-LekT, instructions for use: method and dosage

Furadonin-LekT tablets are intended for oral administration.

A single dose should be taken with meals and washed down with plenty of water.

For acute uncomplicated urinary tract infections, adults and children over 6 years old (weighing more than 25 kg) take 1 tablet 4 times a day for 7 days.

In order to prevent infections during urological examinations and operations, adult patients are prescribed 2 tablets at night.

In children weighing less than 25 kg, the drug is used in the form of a suspension.

Side effects

  • digestive system: pseudomembranous colitis, pancreatitis, cholestatic syndrome, hepatitis, diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting;
  • nervous system: peripheral neuropathy, drowsiness, nystagmus, asthenia, headache, dizziness;
  • respiratory system: cough, shortness of breath, broncho-obstructive syndrome, eosinophilia, chest pain, interstitial changes in the lungs, fibrosis or interstitial pneumonia;
  • hematopoietic system: hemolytic anemia, thrombocytopenia, agranulocytosis, megaloblastic anemia, granulocytopenia, leukopenia (these changes are reversible);
  • allergic reactions: anaphylactic shock, skin rash and itching, Quincke's edema, urticaria;
  • dermatological reactions: erythema multiforme, exfoliative dermatitis;
  • others: possible flu-like symptoms, arthralgia, drug fever, superinfection of the genitourinary tract, the causative agent of which is often Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

Overdose

The main symptom of an overdose of the drug is vomiting.

Therapy: intake of liquid in large quantities (helps to increase the excretion of the drug in the urine), dialysis.

special instructions

Detection of the first manifestations of peripheral neuropathy (the appearance of paresthesias) is the basis for discontinuation of treatment, since this complication can be life-threatening. The likelihood of peripheral neuropathy increases with severe renal failure, electrolyte imbalance, diabetes mellitus, vitamin B deficiency, anemia.

Cancellation of Furadonin-LekT should be carried out when symptoms of hemolysis appear in patients with suspected glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency.

Nitrofurantoin should not be used in combination with drugs that cause impaired renal function, and also be used to treat pathologies of the renal cortex, prostatitis and purulent paranephritis.

For the timely detection of signs of hepatitis, it is important to closely monitor patients receiving the drug for a long time.

It is advisable to take the tablets with food or milk in order to avoid the appearance of undesirable phenomena from the digestive system. After taking Furadonin-LekT, urine may turn brown or yellow.

It should be borne in mind that taking nitrofurantoin may affect the result of the test for determining glucose in urine (it may be false positive).

Before starting drug therapy, it is important to consult a doctor.

Influence on the ability to drive vehicles and complex mechanisms

During the period of therapy with Furadonin-LekT, undesirable effects from the central nervous system may occur, including dizziness, drowsiness and headache. Patients who have these manifestations are prohibited from driving vehicles, as well as performing other work related to increased attention.

Application during pregnancy and lactation

Furadonin-LekT tablets are not prescribed during pregnancy and during breastfeeding.

Pediatric use

The use of the drug is contraindicated in children under the age of 6 years and with a body weight of less than 25 kg (for this dosage form).

For pediatric patients weighing less than 25 kg, the drug is prescribed in the form of a suspension.

With impaired renal function

Chronic renal failure is an absolute contraindication to the use of Furadonin-LekT.

For violations of liver function

The drug is not used in patients with liver cirrhosis.

Drug interactions

Recommended combinations to take into account:

  • nalidixic acid: reduces the antibacterial effect of Furadonin-LekT;
  • antacids containing magnesium trisilicate: reduce the absorption of nitrofurantoin;
  • drugs that promote the excretion of uric acid (sulfinpyrazone, probenecid): can inhibit the secretion of the drug by the renal tubules. At the same time, its level in urine decreases (the antibacterial effect decreases) and increases in the blood (toxicity increases).

Nitrofurantoin is incompatible with fluoroquinolones.

Analogs

Furadonin-LekT analogs are Furadonin Avexima, Furadonin, etc.

Terms and conditions of storage

Store in a place protected from light and moisture at temperatures up to 25 ° C. Keep out of the reach of children.

Shelf life is 4 years.
