Berodual is a drug used in the treatment of bronchial asthma and chronic obstructive bronchitis.

Release form and composition

Berodual is released in the form of a solution for inhalation: a transparent, colorless or almost colorless liquid, free of suspended particles, with a barely perceptible odor (20 ml in dark glass dropper bottles, 1 bottle in a cardboard box).

1 ml (20 drops) contains:

  • Active ingredients: anhydrous ipratropium bromide - 0.25 mg, fenoterol hydrobromide - 0.5 mg;
  • Auxiliary components: sodium chloride, disodium edetate dihydrate, benzalkonium chloride, hydrochloric acid 1N, purified water.

Method of administration and dosage

The drug in the form of a solution for inhalation for relief of seizures is prescribed for adults and children from 12 years old, 20-80 drops (1-4 ml of Berodual). With long-term treatment, lower dosages are used - 20-40 drops (1-2 ml) up to 4 times a day. With moderate bronchospasm or in cases of the need for auxiliary ventilation, 10 drops (0.5 ml of solution) are prescribed.

For children 6-12 years old, Berodual is prescribed once for 10-20 drops (0.5-1 ml) to stop seizures. In severe attacks, an increase in dosage to 40-60 drops (2-3 ml) is permissible. If necessary, long-term therapy, the drug is used up to 4 times a day, 10-20 drops (0.5-1 ml), with moderate bronchospasm - 10 drops (0.5 ml).

In children under 6 years old with a body weight of up to 22 kg, Berodual is used only under medical supervision. The dosage is calculated individually based on body weight, but not more than 10 drops (0.5 ml) 3 times a day.

The solution for inhalation immediately before use must be diluted to a volume of 3-4 ml with physiological solution (it is impossible to dilute with distilled water). Berodual is inhaled through a nebulizer until the solution is completely consumed (within 6-7 minutes). The diluted solution remaining after inhalation cannot be used in the future.

Side effects

  • Nervousness, minor tremors, dizziness, headache, disturbance of accommodation, changes in the psyche (central nervous system);
  • Rash, urticaria, angioedema of the lips, tongue and face (allergic reactions);
  • Tachycardia, palpitations (cardiovascular system);
  • Vomiting, nausea (gastrointestinal tract);
  • Cough, local irritation, paradoxical bronchospasm (respiratory system);
  • Urinary retention, hypokalemia, weakness, increased sweating, convulsions, myalgia (others).

In some cases, when using Berodual in high doses, it is possible to reduce diastolic pressure, increase systolic pressure, and develop arrhythmias. There is also evidence of undesirable effects developing from the organs of vision.

special instructions

If shortness of breath suddenly worsens, you should see a doctor immediately.

It is necessary to prescribe other sympathomimetic bronchodilators simultaneously with Berodual only under medical supervision.

Drug interactions

Since the active component of Berodual is a combination of an m-anticholinergic blocker and a β 2 -adrenomimetic, the following interactions are possible when used in combination with other substances / drugs:

  • Anticholinergics for systemic use, other β-adrenergic agonists, xanthine derivatives (including theophylline): may increase side reactions and the bronchodilatory effect of Berodual;
  • β-blockers: a significant decrease in the bronchodilatory effect of Berodual is possible;
  • Glucocorticosteroids (GCS) and / or cromoglycic acid: increase the effectiveness of treatment;
  • Digoxin: an increase in the risk of arrhythmias due to hypokalemia associated with the use of β-adrenergic agonists is likely, in addition, the negative effect of hypokalemia on the heart rate can increase hypoxia (if necessary, such a combination of drugs should regularly check the level of potassium in the blood serum);
  • Inhaled halogenated anesthetics (for example, halothane, trichlorethylene or enflurane): may increase the effects of β-adrenergic drugs on the cardiovascular system;
  • Xanthine derivatives, corticosteroids and diuretics: it is possible to increase hypokalemia associated with the use of β-adrenergic agonists (it is especially important to take into account this interaction in the treatment of severe forms of obstructive respiratory tract diseases);
  • Tricyclic antidepressants and monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitors: can enhance the action of β-adrenergic drugs.
