Ferrovir dosage form - solution for intramuscular administration: yellow liquid, transparent, without foreign inclusions (in a dark glass ampoule or in a glass bottle 2 ml, in a plastic contour package 10 ampoules or vials, in a cardboard box 1 package; in a dark glass ampoule or in a glass bottle 5 ml, in a plastic contour package 5 ampoules or bottles, in a cardboard box 1 package).

Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics

Ferrovir is a biologically active substance containing an extract from the milk of salmon and sturgeon fish, which is a purified and standardized complex salt of sodium deoxyribonucleate with iron.

The drug helps to activate antiviral, antifungal and antimicrobial immunity. Viruses containing RNA (ribonucleic acid) and DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) are exposed to it.

In the course of treatment of HIV infection (human immunodeficiency virus) lasting 14 days, the use of Ferrovir as part of complex therapy increases the level of CD4 + lymphocytes in the blood (the increased level remains after the end of the course for 1–1.5 months). At the same time, a decrease in the viral load in the body is observed, which is expressed in a decrease in the concentration of HIV RNA relative to the initial level.

In the treatment of recurrent herpes infection after a course of treatment with Ferrovir for 10 days, the severity decreases, the duration of relapses decreases and a long-term remission occurs.

The use of the drug in the complex therapy of chronic hepatitis C contributes to a decrease in the replicative activity of all genotypes of the HCV virus, the transition of the process to the latent phase with the absence of viral replication and restoration of liver cells, as well as to improve the tolerance of treatment (reduction of dizziness, nausea).

Clinical experience with Ferrovir has shown its high degree of activity in the combined treatment of viruses of the underlying and opportunistic diseases. The drug is characterized by good tolerance, absence of toxicity (IC ₅₀ > 4000mkg / ml) and negative side effects.

Pharmacokinetics

When the recommended dose is administered intramuscularly, Ferrovir is rapidly absorbed and distributed in tissues and organs with the participation of the endolymphatic transport pathway.

The time to reach the maximum concentration (C _max) with a single administration is 0.5 hours, after which there is a gradual decrease in the concentration of Ferrovir in the blood plasma, associated with its distribution in the body. With multiple injections of the drug every 24 hours for four days, its greatest accumulation is observed in the lymph nodes, spleen and bone marrow. After the fifth injection of Ferrovir and with subsequent injections, a gradual decrease in its concentration in all tissues and organs is noted.

The half-life of the drug is about 36 hours. It is excreted in the form of metabolites and unchanged, mainly in the urine (about 60%) and partially through the intestines (about 15%).

Indications for use

• herpesvirus infection with different localization caused by herpes simplex virus types 1 and 2, including generalized infection in immunocompetent patients;
• recurrent chronic genital herpes;
• papillomavirus infection and pathological conditions caused by the human papillomavirus (dysplasia, warts, condylomas);
• dysplasia of the cervix (moderate and mild) associated with the human papillomavirus - as part of etiopathogenetic therapy;
• hepatitis C;
• cytomegalovirus infection (CMVI);
• tick-borne encephalitis.

According to the instructions, Ferrovir is also indicated for use in combination therapy of patients with HIV infection, acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS), HIV-infected patients with herpesvirus infection or with hepatitis C.

Contraindications

Instructions for the use of Ferrovir: method and dosage

Ferrovir solution is administered intramuscularly. It is recommended to inject deeply, slowly - for 1.5–2 minutes, pre-warming the ampoule or bottle to body temperature.

Recommended dosage regimens:

• herpesvirus infection: 5 ml of solution (in terms of dry matter 75 mg) twice a day (daily dose - 150 mg) for 10 days. Recent clinical studies have also proven the effectiveness of the following course: 5 ml (75 mg) once a day (with an interval of 24 hours) for 10 days;
• recurrent chronic genital herpes, cytomegalovirus infection: 5 ml of solution (75 mg) twice a day, the course of treatment is from 10 to 15 days;
• combined herpesvirus and papillomavirus infection of the genitals (in complex therapy): 5 ml of solution (75 mg) once a day (with an interval of 24 hours) for 10 days;
• papillomavirus infection: 5 ml of solution (75 mg) once every two days (every 48 hours), the course of treatment is 10 days;
• dysplasia of the cervix associated with human papillomavirus: 5 ml of solution (75 mg) once every two days (with an interval of 48 hours), course - 10 injections;
• cytomegalovirus infection: 5 ml of solution (75 mg) twice a day for 10 days;
• hepatitis C: 5 ml of solution (75 mg) twice a day for 14 days. In the next 14 days - 5 ml every two days (after 48 hours);
• HIV infection, AIDS: 5 ml of solution (75 mg) twice a day (daily dose - 150 mg) for 14 days. A repeated course of therapy, if necessary, is possible in 1–1.5 months;
• tick-borne encephalitis: 5 ml of solution (75 mg) twice a day, the course of treatment is from 5 to 10 days.

Side effects

During the period of treatment with Ferrovir, side effects such as a short-term increase (up to 38 ° C) in body temperature, hyperemia, and soreness at the injection site are possible.

Overdose

Before injection, Ferrovir solution is recommended to be warmed in a hand or container with warm water to body temperature to reduce pain during administration and to weaken side local reactions.

Intravenous administration of the drug is prohibited.

Application during pregnancy and lactation
