Evkazolin Aqua is a local drug with a vasoconstrictor effect used in ENT practice.
Release form and composition
Dosage form - nasal spray: transparent, somewhat yellowish solution, has a specific odor (10 ml in a bottle equipped with a dosing pump with a spray; in a cardboard box 1 bottle).
Composition of 1000 mg spray:
- active substance: xylometazoline hydrochloride - 1 mg (in terms of 100% substance);
- auxiliary components: benzalkonium chloride (in terms of 100% substance) - 0.15 mg; potassium dihydrogen phosphate I - 1 mg; hypromellose - 0.5 mg; polysorbate 20 - 10 mg; eucalyptus oil - 1 mg; sodium hydrogen phosphate dodecahydrate - 0.5 mg; povidone - 7.5 mg; disodium edetate dihydrate - 0.15 mg; propylene glycol - 60 mg; macrogol 1500 - 50 mg; water for injection - up to 1000 mg.
Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics
Xylometazoline is a local vasoconstrictor (decongestant) with alpha2-adrenomimetic efficacy. It has a long-term and rapid vasoconstrictor effect on the capillaries of the nasal mucosa. The main properties of the drug: elimination of hyperemia and edema of the mucous membrane, relief of nasal breathing against the background of rhinitis.
The action of Evkazolin Aqua develops a few minutes after the spray is injected, its duration is several hours.
Pharmacokinetics
When applied topically, xylometazoline is almost not absorbed, its concentration in plasma is practically undetectable.
Indications for use
- relief of symptoms in acute rhinitis and sinusitis of various etiologies;
- reduction of edema of the nasal mucosa in acute otitis media (as an adjunct therapy);
- preparation of the patient for diagnostic procedures (rhinoscopy).
Contraindications
Absolute:
- arterial hypertension;
- severe atherosclerosis;
- tachycardia;
- atrophic rhinitis;
- glaucoma;
- transsphenoidal hypophysectomy or a burdened history of transnasal / transoral surgery with exposure of the dura mater;
- age up to 6 years;
- pregnancy;
- individual intolerance to the components of the drug.
Relative (Evkazolin Aqua is used under medical supervision):
- diabetes mellitus with thyroid disease (hyperthyroidism);
- cardiovascular diseases;
- hyperplasia of the prostate;
- strong reactions against the background of the use of adrenergic drugs - insomnia, dizziness, tremor, cardiac arrhythmia, a tendency to increase blood pressure;
- lactation period.
Instructions for the use of Evkazolin Aqua: method and dosage
Spray Evkazolin Aqua is intended for intranasal use.
The recommended dosage regimen: 3-4 times a day, 1 injection in each nasal passage. The duration of use depends on the course of the disease, but no longer than 5-7 days of daily administration. A second course can be prescribed in a few days.
Side effects
Possible side reactions that occur with frequent / prolonged use: headache, insomnia, blurred vision, vomiting, sneezing, palpitations, depression, arrhythmias, increased blood pressure, tachycardia, irritation / dryness of the nasopharyngeal mucosa, burning / paresthesia of the nasal mucosa, hypersecretion and edema of the nasal mucosa.
Overdose
Overdose symptoms are manifested in the form of bradycardia, a decrease in body temperature, an increase in blood pressure.
Therapy: symptomatic.

- sympatholytics, adrenergic blockers, blockers of slow calcium channels: the effect of xylometazoline is weakened;
- other adrenomimetics: the effect of xylometazoline may be enhanced;
- tricyclic antidepressants, monoamine oxidase inhibitors: their hypertensive effect is enhanced.
