With arthritis, Plaquenil can be combined with salicylates, non-steroids, glucocorticosteroids, methotrexate, while their dosage can be reduced: the dosage of cortisone can be reduced by 5-15 mg; the dosage of hydrocortisone is 5-10 mg; triamcinolone or methylprednisolone - 1-2 mg; dexamethasone - 0.3-0.5 mg; prednisone and prednisolone - by 1-2 mg.

With lupus erythematosus, adults are given 400 mg of Plaquenil per day. The frequency of application of the agent is 1-2 times a day.

To prevent acute malarial attacks that occur with a disease caused by strains of Plasmodium malariae or falciparum, the drug is prescribed in a dosage of 400 mg. The medicine is taken weekly, preferably on the same days of the week.

For children with malaria, Plaquenil is prescribed at a dosage of 6.5 mg / kg, but it is taken into account that a child's dosage cannot exceed an adult.

Malaria prophylaxis begins two weeks before entry into a country considered endemic. If this is not possible, adults are prescribed a double loading dose of Plaquenil - 800 mg. In this case, children are given a medicine at the rate of 12.9 mg / kg. Take the daily dosage in two doses with a break of 6 hours. After leaving the area with an increased risk of contracting malaria, prevention should be continued for another two months.

If an acute attack of malaria begins, adults are given 800 mg of Plaquenil, after 6-8 hours - 400 mg, and another 400 mg of the drug over the next two days.

There are good reviews of Plaquenil from patients who took a single, boosted dose of 800 mg during an acute malarial attack.
