Parlazine (international non-proprietary name - cetirizine) is a drug used in the treatment of allergies. There is such a not quite euphonious saying: it is better to overlook than not to miss. There is, of course, a share of common sense in this, but not in relation to allergies: after all, this condition is precisely connected with an excessive reaction of the body, not the invasion of a foreign substance. Our immune system is unnecessarily insured, from which then we have to suffer exactly until the moment when Parlazin comes to the fore.
Release form
Parlazin is available in two dosage forms:
- In tablets containing 10 mg of cetirizine. The package contains 1 or 3 blisters of 10 tablets each with instructions for Parlazin;
- In drops for oral administration, poured into 20 ml dark glass vials. 1 ml of drops contains 1 mg of cetirizine. In the secondary packaging - a cardboard box - an insert leaflet (instructions for Parlazin) is placed along with the bottle.
Parlazin is produced by the Hungarian pharmaceutical plant EGIS Pharmaceuticals.
Parlazin's analogs
It is not surprising that the chemical cetirizine is reproduced in many brands. Considering that about 30% of the world's population is allergic, there is often a queue of patients constantly sneezing and blowing their nose for Parlazin's analogues, as well as for him. But let's not torment the reader and go directly to the pharmacological substitutes for Parlazin:

The fact that allergies are associated with inflammation has long been Openel's secret. But the mechanism of its development is not known to everyone. The inflammatory process develops under the strict guidance of special substances called inflammatory mediators, among which histamine occupies a prominent place. Receptors for histamine are densely scattered in the organs and tissues of the human body. The role of Parlazin is to block these receptors, thereby preventing histamine from “heating up” the inflammation to its fullest. The drug reduces blood flow to the focus of inflammation, reduces swelling, prevents the development of skin manifestations of inflammation, relieves itching, lowers the tone of smooth muscles.
In reviews of Parlazin, an early onset of its action is noted: after 20 minutes, about half of the patients feel a pronounced therapeutic effect, and after an hour, almost everyone.
Parlazin's indications for use
In accordance with the instructions for Parlazin and the reviews of immunologists about him, this drug is indicated for the following diseases:
- Allergic rhinitis (runny nose) and conjunctivitis, which are both seasonal and everyday. Often these two pathological conditions go hand in hand, constituting a "nuclear mixture" of symptoms, including difficulty in nasal breathing, profuse mucus from the nose and lacrimal fluid from the eyes, inflammation of the conjunctiva and intolerable itching;
- Pollinosis, better known as hay fever;
- Urticaria, incl. unexplained etiology;
- Allergic skin diseases, including diffuse neurodermatitis;
- Quincke's edema.
Brief instructions for the use of Parlazin
Pills. For adults and children from 6 years of age, the recommended dosage is 10 mg or 1 tablet taken in one dose in the evening (adults) or divided into two doses - morning and evening (children). In some cases, 5 mg is enough to develop the proper clinical effect. Children under 6 years of age should only take Parlazin drops.
Drops. Here is the same picture: adults and children under 6 years old should take a daily dose of 10 mg (20 drops), respectively, for 2 and 1 dose. As for young children, the following doses of Parlazin are recommended for the smallest allergy sufferers:
- from 6 months up to 1 year - 2.5 mg or 5 drops 1 time per day;
- from 1 year to 2 years - the same, but 1-2 times a day;
- from 2 to 6 years old - 5 mg (10 drops) once a day or 2.5 mg (5 drops) twice a day.
The duration of the course of treatment with Parlazin is determined on an individual basis.
Contraindications
According to reviews about Parlazin, this drug is well tolerated, however, there are a number of contraindications for it:
- individual intolerance to any component of the drug;
- age up to 6 years (only for tablets);
- lactation period.
As for pregnancy, this condition cannot be considered an absolute contraindication. When tested on our smaller brothers, cetirizine (the active ingredient of Parlazin) proved to be generally good: carcinogenic, teratogenic and mutagenic effects did not develop. Given the lack of sufficient experience in the use of Parlazin by pregnant women, doctors recommend refusing to take it during the 1st trimester of pregnancy, and in the next two trimesters to take the drug under strict medical supervision.
Side effect
Reviews of Parlazin and the results of clinical trials on volunteers gave grounds for the inclusion of the following adverse reactions in the instructions:
- hyposalivation (dry mouth) and dyspeptic disorders;
- slight drowsiness, migraine headaches, a state of fatigue, and sometimes, on the contrary, paradoxical activity;
- allergy to the drug (as they say "what they fought for …", but this also happens).
Special instructions for the use of Parlazin
Chronic renal failure and old age require a particularly careful approach in determining a safe dose of Parlazin due to the fact that, while taking it, a decrease in glomerular filtration is possible.
Patients with lactose intolerance should know that Parlazin tablets contain 11.5 mg of this substance.
Another important point is the influence of Parlazin on psychomotor functions. Research in this direction has not been carried out, however, given the presence in the list of side effects of drowsiness and fatigue, this drug should be used with caution by drivers or other persons engaged in potentially hazardous activities.
Often, patients are concerned about the relationship of the drug they are taking with alcohol. Well, we can say that Parlazin does not enhance the effect of alcohol. However, doctors recommend that you refrain from alcohol while taking this drug.
Parlazin is available over the counter without a prescription.
Storage instruction for Parlazin
Parlazin tablets and drops can be stored at room temperature.
The shelf life of the drug is quite long - 4 years - but if the bottle with drops has already been opened, then it is recommended to use it up entirely within 1 month.
