Thymol is a herbal medicine that is produced from thyme. The drug is intended for the treatment of helminthiasis and its consequences.
Composition and form of release
The main components of Timol are thyme extract, isopropyl, methylphenol.
Thymol is available in capsules and suspensions for internal use.
Pharmacological properties of Timol
Thymol has anthelmintic, antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects. The drug has a pronounced antipruritic and antiseptic effect.
Common thyme in the preparation destroys microbes, parasitic organisms, fungi and viruses.
Thanks to the antimicrobial effect of Timol on the digestive tract, helminths and their larvae die, and fermentation in the intestine decreases and its microflora normalizes.
During the treatment period, the patient should take only liquid food, avoiding the use of sweet and spicy foods, alcohol. After the course of treatment (within 2 days), systemic lavage of the digestive system is performed with a laxative saline solution.
Indications for use
Timol is prescribed for the treatment of helminthiasis (ankylostomiasis, necatorosis, trichocephalosis, cestosis), diarrhea, flatulence, halitosis, eczema, pruritus, dermatitis, and actinomycosis of the skin.
The drug is used to disinfect and relieve inflammation in the oral cavity and nasopharynx.
Instructions for the use of Timol
According to the instructions, Timol for local use is prescribed together with menthol for rinsing the mouth and throat.
Inside, Timol is prescribed for the treatment of helminthiasis in a dosage depending on the type of disease:
- with actinomycosis, take 0.5 g 2-3 times a day for 3 days;
- with trichocephalosis - 0.7 g 2 times a day for 6 cycles, each of which is divided into 7 days, and the course of treatment is 2-3 months;
- with ankylostomiasis - 0.5 g 2 times a day with an interval of 3 hours.
For antimicrobial therapy, take 2 Timol tablets 2 times a day together with a saline solution. The course of treatment lasts 6-8 days, and then a break for 1 week is required. A repeated course of disinfection is carried out together with other anthelmintic drugs.
For children, Timol is prescribed taking into account body weight and diagnostic indications. The maximum daily dose for adults should not exceed 4 g, and for children - 0.6 g.
Contraindications
Contraindications to the use of Timol are hypersensitivity and intolerance to the components of the drug, pregnancy and lactation, peptic ulcer, renal and hepatic failure, children under 2 years of age, heart failure, severe brain diseases, epilepsy, respiratory tract infections.
The drug is prescribed with caution in old age and in the presence of severe diseases of the digestive system.
Side effects of Timol
Thymol is well tolerated and does not cause serious side effects.
When taking the drug, allergic reactions may appear - urticaria, itching, skin rash, increased sweating, bronchospasm.
