Otinum is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug for topical use with anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antimicrobial and antifungal effects.
Release form and composition
Dosage form - ear drops: clear solution of light yellow color with a characteristic odor (10 g each in a plastic dropper bottle with a screw cap, 1 bottle in a cardboard box).
The active ingredient is choline salicylate, in 1 ml - 0.2 g.
Auxiliary components: ethanol, chlorobutanol hemihydrate, glycerol, purified water.
Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics
Otinum is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug. The active ingredient - choline salicylate, is a derivative of salicylic acid, has anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects when instilled into the ear.
The mechanism of action of the drug is based on inhibition of the activity of cyclooxygenase (an enzyme responsible for the synthesis of prostaglandins). Also, choline salicylate inhibits the synthesis of prostacyclin and thromboxane.
Has antifungal and antimicrobial action (in an alkaline and acidic environment).
When applied topically, it does not have a systemic effect.
Indications for use
According to the instructions, Otinum is used in the treatment of acute otitis media, myringitis, otitis externa.
In addition, drops are used before the procedure for removing hardened earwax (to soften it) when washing the external auditory canal.
Contraindications
- Violation of the integrity of the tympanic membrane;
- Partial or complete combination of recurrent polyposis of the paranasal sinuses and nose, bronchial asthma, acetylsalicylic acid intolerance and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), including history;
- The period of pregnancy and breastfeeding;
- Childhood;
- Individual hypersensitivity to drug components.
It is recommended to use drops with caution in patients with allergic (hay) rhinitis, nasal polyps.
Instructions for the use of Otinum: method and dosage
Otinum ear drops are instilled into the external auditory canal, after warming (holding the bottle in hand for some time). During the procedure, the patient should be in a lying position on his side; after instillation, he should not get up for several minutes.
Recommended dosage:
- Acute otitis media, myringitis, otitis externa: 3-4 drops 3-4 times a day, duration of treatment - up to 10 days;
- Softening sulfur plugs before removing them: 3-4 drops 2 times a day for 4 days.
Elderly patients with impaired renal and / or liver function do not require dosage adjustment.
Side effects
Against the background of the use of Otinum ear drops, a burning sensation is possible when instilled, the development of allergic reactions, with prolonged therapy or perforation of the tympanic membrane - hearing impairment.
