Release form and composition

The drug is available in the form of a solution for intravenous (i / v) and intramuscular (i / m) administration: transparent liquid, slightly colored (2 ml in polymer ampoules, in a cardboard box of 10 or 100 ampoules and instructions for use of Papaverine bufus).

Papaverine bufus is an antispasmodic drug that has a vasodilator effect. Its active ingredient, papaverine, is an inhibitor of the phosphodiesterase enzyme. The mechanism of action of the drug is due to the ability of papaverine to cause intracellular accumulation of cyclic 3,5-adenosine monophosphate, which helps to reduce the tone of smooth muscles, impair their contractility and relaxation in spastic conditions.

On the central nervous system, therapeutic doses of the drug have a mild effect.

Against the background of high doses, there may be some sedation, a decrease in the excitability of the heart muscle, and a slowdown in intracardiac conduction.

The absorption of papaverine depends on the dosage form.

Bioavailability averages 54%, binding to blood plasma proteins - 90%. Papaverine is well distributed in the body, overcomes histohematogenous barriers. The drug metabolism occurs in the liver.
