Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics

The effect of the drug is due to the presence in its structure of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), which directly affects the GABA B receptor-channel complex.

Pantogam active is a racemic mixture of equal amounts of the R-form of hopantenic acid and its S-isomer. Thanks to the isomer, the transport and interaction of the substance with the GABA receptor improves.

Pantogam active, in comparison with the first generation hopantenic acid preparations, has a more pronounced anticonvulsant and nootropic effect.

  • stimulation of anabolic processes in neurons;
  • increasing the resistance of the brain to the effects of toxic substances and hypoxia;
  • providing a moderate sedative effect with a mild stimulating effect, as well as antiasthenic and mild anti-anxiety action;
  • decrease in motor excitability, streamlining of behavior;
  • inhibition of the pathologically increased detrusor tone and gallbladder reflex;
  • activation of mental activity and performance.

Pharmacokinetics

It is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. Penetrates the blood-brain barrier.

It is not metabolized, excreted over 48 hours unchanged: with urine - about 70% of the dose taken, with feces - about 30%.
