Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics

Mirofuril is an antimicrobial drug with a wide spectrum of bacteriostatic action. When used in high doses, it has a bactericidal effect. Its active ingredient, nifuroxazide, is a 5-nitrofuran derivative. The antimicrobial activity of nifuroxazide is due to the presence of an NO2-group in its composition, which causes blocking of dehydrogenase activity, inhibition of the respiratory chain, tricarboxylic acid cycle and a number of other biochemical processes, which leads to disruption of protein synthesis in pathogenic bacteria.

Against the background of the use of the drug, the production of toxins by microorganisms decreases, the membranes of microbial cells are destroyed. Taking nifuroxazide does not lead to the emergence of resistant strains or cross-resistance with other antibacterial agents. The therapeutic effect of nifuroxazide does not depend on the pH in the intestinal lumen and the susceptibility of microorganisms to antibiotics.

The following pathogenic intestinal bacteria are highly sensitive to nifuroxazide: Staphylococcus speciales (spp.), Salmonella spp., Shigella spp., Campylobacter jejuni, Escherichia coli, Clostridium perfringens, Vibrions and Vibrio parahaemolyticlerae Vibrio.

Nifuroxazide exhibits weak activity against Enterobacter cloacae, Citrobacter spp., Proteus indologenes.

Klebsiella spp., Providencia spp., Proteus mirabilis, Pseudomonas spp. Are resistant to nifuroxazide.

In acute diarrhea of bacterial etiology, the drug helps to restore intestinal eubiosis. Prevents the development of bacterial superinfection when infected with enterotropic viruses.

Nifuroxazide does not affect the saprophytic flora and does not disturb the balance of the normal intestinal flora.

Pharmacokinetics

After oral administration, nifuroxazide is almost not absorbed from the digestive tract and does not enter the systemic circulation. The antibacterial effect is realized exclusively in the intestinal lumen. Completely excreted through the intestines (unchanged - 20%).

Indications for use

The use of Mirofuril is indicated for acute bacterial diarrhea, proceeding without an increase in body temperature, deterioration of the general condition and intoxication.
