Umckalor is a herbal antimicrobial and immunomodulatory drug used in the treatment of infectious diseases of the ENT organs.
pharmachologic effect
The active components of Umckalor have a pronounced antimicrobial and antiviral effect, contribute to an increase in the body's nonspecific resistance and have mucolytic properties.
Umckalor contains an extract of the root Pelargonium sidoides (Pelargonium sidoides). The main active substances of this South African plant are flavonols, coumarins and some organic acids, which are active against:
- Gram-negative bacteria including Klebsiella pneumoniae, Hemophilus influenzae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Proteus mirabillis, E. coli;
- Gram-positive bacteria including Streptococcus (pneumoniae and haemolitic) and Staphylococcus aureus;
- Microorganisms of the Mycobacterlum tuberculosis strain.
According to the instructions, the active components of Umckalor affect the immune system and activate both specific and non-specific immunity. The action of the drug is manifested in the form:
- Protecting cells and tissues from damage in infectious diseases;
- Increasing the strength of the vascular walls;
- Removal of radionuclides and metabolic products from the body;
- Stabilization of the intercellular substance of the connective tissue;
- Increase of tissue regenerative functions after illness.
Umckalor has a cytoprotective effect, which is important in the treatment of infectious diseases. In addition, the drug has a mucolytic effect, acting on the mucous secretion of the bronchi, namely:

Umckalor is released in the form of a reddish-brown transparent solution for oral administration, 100 g of which contains 80 g of the active substance - the roots of Pelargonium sidoides in the form of a liquid extract. In dark glass vials with dropper, 20 and 50 ml.

- Rhinopharyngitis;
- Angina, including catarrhal;
- Otitis media.
Contraindications
The use of Umckalor is contraindicated in the following cases:
- With severe liver and kidney diseases;
- During pregnancy;
- With a predisposition to bleeding;
- In pediatrics up to one year;
- During breastfeeding;
- With hypersensitivity to the components of Umckalor.
Method of using Umckalor
According to the instructions, it is recommended to take Umckalor before meals (preferably half an hour) with a small amount of water.
Children (from 12 years old) and adults are usually prescribed 20-30 drops of the solution three times a day. For children 6-12 years old, a single dosage should not exceed 20 drops of Umckalor, 1-6 years old - ten drops with a frequency of administration three times a day.
As a rule, the average duration of the course of therapy does not exceed ten days. To prevent relapse after the treatment carried out by Umckalor, it is recommended to continue using the drug for several more days after the symptoms of the disease disappear.
In cases of frequent relapses or in the chronic course of the disease, treatment is continued in reduced dosages (10-20 drops for adults without changing the frequency of administration) after consulting a doctor.
There have been no reports of symptoms developing with an overdose when using Umckalor.
Drug interactions
An increase in the anticoagulant effect is possible with the combined use of coumarin derivatives with Umckalor solution.
