Sodium sulfacyl-DIA dosage form - eye drops: transparent, colorless or slightly colored liquid (in a cardboard box 1 or 50 vials / dropper bottles of 5 or 10 ml).

Composition of 1 ml drops:

  • active substance: sodium sulfacetamide monohydrate - 100 or 200 mg (in terms of dry matter);
  • auxiliary components: sodium disulfite, sodium hydroxide solution 1M, purified water.

Pharmacodynamics

Sodium sulfacil-DIA belongs to the group of antimicrobial bacteriostatic agents (sulfonamide). The mechanism of action is associated with competitive antagonism with PABA (para-aminobenzoic acid) and inhibition of dihydropteroate synthetase. Due to this, there is a violation of the synthesis of dihydrofolic acid and, as a consequence, tetrahydrofolic acid (its active metabolite), which is necessary for the synthesis of pyrimidines and purines.

Shows activity against gram-positive / gram-negative cocci, Bacillus anthracis, Escherichia coli, Actinomyces israelii, Shigella spp., Toxoplasma gondii, Vibrio cholerae, Clostridium perfringens, Corynebacterium diphtheriae, Chlamydia spp.,.

Pharmacokinetics

Sulfacetamide sodium penetrates into the fluids and tissues of the eye. Through the inflamed conjunctiva, it is absorbed into the systemic circulation.
