Okumetil is a combined agent for topical use in ophthalmology with antiseptic, antiallergic, vasoconstrictor, anti-inflammatory action.
Release form and composition
Dosage form - eye drops: clear blue liquid (5 or 10 ml each in plastic dropper bottles, 1 bottle in a cardboard box and instructions for the use of Okumetil).
Content of active substances Okumetil in 1 ml drops:
- Zinc sulfate - 1 mg;
- Naphazoline hydrochloride - 1 mg;
- Diphenhydramine hydrochloride - 1 mg.
Auxiliary components: hypromellose 4000, citric acid, sodium chloride, sodium citrate, benzalkonium chloride, sodium hydroxide, methylene blue dye, distilled water.
Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics
Okumetil is a combined preparation, the action of which is due to the properties of its components:
- diphenhydramine - is a blocker of H 1 -histamine receptors, which reduces capillary permeability, prevents tissue edema;
- zinc sulfate - has anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, drying and astringent effects;
- naphazoline - is a sympathomimetic, which is characterized by a rapid, pronounced and prolonged vasoconstrictor effect, reduces hyperemia and swelling of the mucous membranes.
Due to the properties of the active ingredients, Okumetil has antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic activity.
Pharmacokinetics
After instillation into the conjunctival sac, the drug undergoes systemic absorption.
There is no information on the degree of penetration of Ocumetil into various tissues of the eye after instillation of drops.
Indications for use
- Angular conjunctivitis;
- Conjunctivitis and blepharoconjunctivitis of allergic etiology;
- Chronic blepharoconjunctivitis and nonspecific conjunctivitis;
- Eye Tissue Irritation - to reduce redness, itching, and foreign body sensation symptoms.
Contraindications
- Dry eye syndrome;
- Closed-angle glaucoma;

Okumetil, instructions for use: method and dosage
Ocumetil eye drops are applied topically, instilled into the conjunctival sac of the affected eye.
Recommended dosage: 1 drop 2-3 times a day.
In the absence of a noticeable decrease in the symptoms of pathology after three days of therapy, the use of Okumetil should be discontinued and consult a doctor.
Side effects
- From the side of the organ of vision: slight burning sensation during instillation, allergic reactions, reactive hyperemia, blurred vision, edema of the mucous membrane of the eye, dilated pupil, paresis of accommodation, numbness and dryness of the mucous membrane of the eye, increased intraocular pressure;
- Others: possibly - drowsiness, nausea, headache, dizziness, weakness, tachycardia, photosensitivity, increased blood pressure, impaired coordination of movements, decreased psychomotor reactions.
In patients with aphakia, the appearance of central scotoma and the development of maculopathy are possible, with the abolition of Okumetil, the reverse development of symptoms is observed.
Overdose
Overdose cases have not been reported.

Influence on the ability to drive vehicles and complex mechanisms
When driving vehicles and mechanisms, one should take into account a possible decrease in visual acuity within 10-15 minutes after eye instillation.
Application during pregnancy and lactation
Ocumetil is contraindicated during pregnancy and lactation.
Pediatric use
Okumetil eye drops are not used to treat children under 2 years of age.
Drug interactions
Preparations for stimulating the central nervous system are not recommended to be prescribed concurrently with Okumetil, since this combination can mutually reduce the therapeutic effect.
Beta-blockers, MAO inhibitors enhance the effect of Okumetil, so you can start using drops only 10 days after stopping treatment with MAO inhibitors.
Local anesthetics should not be given in combination with drops.
Pharmaceutically, Ocumethyl is incompatible with protargol, ichthyol, silver or lead salts, citral, quinine, alkaline-reacting substances.
