Release form and composition
The drug is produced in the form of eye drops 0.25% (5 or 10 ml each in polymer dropper bottles, 1 bottle in a cardboard box).
The composition of 1 ml drops includes:

- Auxiliary component: boric acid.
Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics
Chloramphenicol is a broad-spectrum bacteriostatic antibiotic. It disrupts the process of protein production in a microbial cell, since it is fat-soluble, that is, it can penetrate the cell membrane of microorganisms and reversibly bind to the 50S subunit of bacterial ribosomes. In the latter, the transport of amino acids to the increasing peptide chains is inhibited, which contributes to the disruption of protein production. Chloramphenicol has been proven to be effective against strains of microorganisms that are resistant to sulfonamides, tetracyclines, and penicillin.
The drug is active against mycoplasmas and rickettsia, Escherichia coli microorganisms, Moraxella lacunata, Haemophilus influenzae, Streptococcus spp. (including Streptococcus haemolyticus and Streptococcus pneumoniae), Klebsiella pneumoniae, Staphylococcus aureus, and some Neisseria and Enterobacter species. The drug is resistant to acid-resistant bacteria, Serratia marcescens, anaerobes, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Acinetobacter spp.
Pharmacokinetics
Instillation of Levomycetin eye drops into the conjunctival sac leads to the creation of therapeutic concentrations of chloramphenicol in the vitreous humor, aqueous humor of the eye, iris, cornea, but the drug does not penetrate into the lens. Partially the active substance enters the systemic circulation. Excretion of chloramphenicol is carried out mainly through the kidneys in the form of pharmacologically inactive metabolites, and also partially through the intestines.

Reviews about Levomycetin eye drops
On the Internet, there are often positive reviews about Levomycetin eye drops. Patients note the rapidity of the drug's action and its high efficiency. Often, an improvement in the condition occurs after the first application, and recovery is diagnosed 2-3 days after the start of treatment.
Some buyers used drops in order to prevent infection with mechanical trauma to the cornea, hypothermia, as well as incipient "barley" or conjunctivitis. The drug helps to eliminate pain and redness of the eyes. However, it is not recommended to use eye drops for the onset of a runny nose, since the agent is a local antibiotic and can negatively affect the resistance of bacteria to antibacterial drugs or provoke allergic reactions.
In addition, patients note the convenience of the bottle dispenser and the absence of discomfort during use, as well as the low cost of drops. At the same time, there are reports that with frequent use of Levomycetin eye drops, microorganisms adapt to its action and therapy turns out to be ineffective.
The price of Levomycetin eye drops in pharmacies
The average price for Levomycetin eye drops in pharmacy chains is 10–20 rubles (for a 5 ml bottle) or 13–27 rubles (for a 10 ml bottle).
