Bonafton belongs to the group of topical antiviral drugs.
Release form and composition
The drug is available in the form:
- Eye ointment 0.05% (in 10 g aluminum tubes);
- Ointments for local and external use 0.5% (in aluminum tubes of 15 g or 25 g).
The active ingredient is bromonaphthoquinone.
Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics
According to the instructions, Bonafton has an antiviral effect and is active against certain types of adenoviruses and Herpes simplex. Bromnaphthoquinone, the active ingredient of the drug, inhibits the synthesis of cytoplasmic proteins that are part of the capsids, and prevents the transfer of viral capsid components into the cell nucleus, where they are "assembled". Bonafton reduces the severity of symptoms in infectious diseases of the conjunctiva of the vault and eyeball, including eliminating hyperemia, normalizing the structure of the cornea and accelerating the process of epithelialization of ulcers.
Bromnaphthoquinone does not enter the systemic circulation, therefore, there are no data on the pharmacokinetics of the drug.
Indications for use
The use of eye ointment is advisable in the treatment of viral eye diseases (adenoviral conjunctivitis, keratoconjunctivitis, herpetic keratitis).
Indications for the use of ointments for local and external use are:
- Adenoviral eye lesions;
- Herpetic keratitis;
- Herpetic stomatitis and gingivitis;
- Herpes of the genital organs;
- Viral skin diseases (condyloma, herpes simplex, shingles, etc.).
Contraindications
A contraindication to the use of all forms of the drug is the patient's hypersensitivity to its components.
The use of ophthalmic ointment is contraindicated during pregnancy and lactation, as well as for persons under 18 years of age.
Instructions for use of Bonafton: method and dosage
Bonafton eye ointment is applied topically. A strip of the drug 1 cm long must be placed behind the lower eyelid 3-4 times a day. The duration of treatment is determined by the disease that serves as an indication for the appointment of an ointment:
- With herpetic eye diseases, the duration of therapy is 10-12 days;
- With keratoconjunctivitis and conjunctivitis - 7-10 days.
Ointment for external and local use should be applied to the affected skin surfaces 2-3 times a day. When treating genital herpes, the drug should be used 4-6 times a day. The therapy is carried out in three five-day courses with intervals of 1-2 days, or two ten-day courses with a break of 3-5 days.
Side effects
When using Bonafton ointment for external and local use, irritation may occur at the site of application.
The use of ophthalmic ointment can cause a burning sensation in the eye (as a rule, it disappears after 5-10 minutes), transient blurred vision, allergic reactions.
