Dekvadol is a combination drug used topically in the treatment of throat diseases.
Release form and composition
Dosage form of release - tablets for resorption: white, flat-cylindrical, on one side have a chamfer and a risk (in a blister of 6 pcs., In a cardboard box of 3 or 5 blisters).
Active ingredients in 1 tablet:
- dequalinium chloride - 0.25 mg;
- cinchocaine hydrochloride (dibucaine hydrochloride) - 0.03 mg.
Auxiliary components: sorbitol (E 420), talc, magnesium stearate, anhydrous colloidal silicon dioxide, mint oil, powdery food flavoring (mint).
Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics
Dequalinium chloride, as a fungistatic and bactericidal agent, affects microorganisms that cause mixed infections of the throat and mouth.
This component has a wide spectrum of action, including most gram-positive / gram-negative bacteria, as well as fungi, pathogens and spirochetes, which lead to mixed infections of the throat and mouth.
Microorganisms resistant to dequalinium chloride are unknown.
The accumulation of dibucaine hydrochloride in the body helps to alleviate the pain symptom that often accompanies the infectious process.
The use of Dekvadol does not lead to the formation of caries.
Pharmacokinetics
With local application of the drug, there is a slight absorption of its components.
Indications for use
Dekvadol is prescribed for the topical treatment of acute inflammatory diseases of the mouth and throat, including tonsillitis, gingivitis, ulcerative and aphthous stomatitis, pharyngitis and laryngitis.
Also, the drug is recommended for use in the presence of the following diseases / conditions:
- bad breath;
- mixed infection of the throat and mouth;
- catarrhal sore throat, lacunar sore throat and sore throat Plaut-Vincent (as an additional remedy);
- postoperative period after tooth extraction and tonsillectomy;
- candidiasis of the pharyngeal cavity and mouth.
Contraindications
Absolute:
- rare hereditary diseases such as fructose intolerance syndrome;
- age up to 4 years;
- period of breastfeeding;
- individual intolerance to the components of the drug, as well as the presence of allergies to quaternary ammonium compounds (for example, benzalkonium chloride).
Relative (diseases / conditions in which you need to be careful):
- low plasma levels of cholinesterase in the blood;
- pregnancy.
Instructions for the use of Dekvadol: method and dosage
Dekvadol tablets are applied topically - they must be slowly dissolved without chewing.
Single dose - 1 tablet.
In the acute phase, the drug is prescribed every 2 (adults and children over 12 years old) or 3 hours (children 4–12 years old). Then, after reducing the severity of symptoms of inflammation, the frequency of use is reduced (every 4 hours).
Maximum: acute phase - 10–12 tablets per day; after a decrease in the severity of symptoms - 6 tablets per day.
The duration of the course of treatment is determined individually by the doctor. If after 5 days of therapy the condition does not improve, you should consult a specialist.
Side effects
Sometimes, during the use of the drug, the development of hypersensitivity reactions may occur, manifested as a burning sensation, itching, rash, irritation of the mucous membrane of the throat and mouth.
In rare cases, if the patient exceeds the recommended dosage regimen, necrosis and ulcers occur.

Sugar is not included in Dekvadol tablets, so patients with diabetes can use it.

Application during pregnancy and lactation
Due to the lack of controlled studies, Dekvadol can be prescribed to pregnant women only after assessing the ratio of the expected benefit with the possible risk. It is not recommended to use the drug during breastfeeding.
Pediatric use
According to the instructions, Dekvadol can be used in children from 4 years old.
Drug interactions
When applied simultaneously with anionic tensides, in particular with toothpaste, the antibacterial activity of dequalinium decreases.
The combination with cholinesterase inhibitors is not recommended.
