Treatment of bronchitis with folk remedies can be carried out only with the approval of the attending physician and under his supervision. Typically, this treatment complements, rather than replaces, mainstream therapy. Also, folk remedies can be used to prevent bronchitis with acute respiratory infections.

Folk remedies, if used correctly, serve as an effective addition to the main treatment of bronchitis.

Bronchitis is an inflammation of the bronchial mucosa. The disease is quite common, since this part of the respiratory system is constantly in contact with air from the environment along with all the dust and pathogenic microorganisms contained in it. Complex mechanisms of immunity, both local and systemic, counteract the disease, but sometimes they cannot cope - individual patients, in particular smokers or children with reduced immunity, can get bronchitis up to three times a year, so the problem of effective treatment of the disease is extremely urgent. In addition, the disease can have far-reaching consequences, flowing into dangerous complications.

Approach to the treatment of bronchitis

Opinions differ about the effectiveness of traditional methods of treating bronchitis. You can often hear that with bronchitis it is better to immediately switch to antibiotics. However, this approach is not the correct solution. First of all, it is necessary to abandon the practice of prescribing drugs on your own. The same antibiotics can harm the body, and are not always effective, for example, for inflammation of a viral origin, so they should be prescribed by a doctor strictly for medical reasons. Unlike prescription drugs with a long list of side effects, folk remedies can be used at any stage of the disease, the main thing is to do it right. The most important rule in the treatment of bronchitis is the use of the traditional method as an auxiliary, complementary to the main treatment.

Treatment of bronchitis with folk remedies at home

How to treat bronchitis at home? Home remedies can be prepared on your own, no special skills are required. However, it should be borne in mind that they are also not absolutely safe, and just like drugs, they can cause allergies, especially with regard to herbal preparations.

One of the popular recipes is a drug that contains honey, lemon and glycerin. Such a remedy is suitable for the treatment of bronchitis in both adults and children (it turns out a delicious paste that the child will be happy to use), and the ingredients provide a wide range of useful properties:

  • lemon - contains citric acid, which has a bactericidal effect, as well as a huge amount of vitamin C, which increases the general resistance of the body and counteracts harmful free radicals;
  • honey - one of the most useful natural products, contains a large amount of trace elements, has an antibacterial effect;
  • glycerin softens the mucous membrane, moisturizes it, changes the structure of mucus, improves its excretion from the body, which makes the drug effective for dry cough.

The preparation is prepared as follows: a lemon is taken, in which through holes are made, but it is necessary to keep the pulp and juice intact, after which a pot of boiling water is collected, where the lemon is boiled for 5 minutes. After that, the citrus is removed, cooled, and its juice is squeezed into a glass - as much as possible (you can do this with an electric or manual juicer). To the resulting juice is added two tablespoons of glycerin, which can be purchased at any pharmacy without a prescription. After thoroughly mixing, honey is added in an amount equal to the volume of juice with glycerin. After that, the mixture is stirred again and infused for about 3 hours in a cool place (you can in the refrigerator), cooling down. The drug is ready to use - adults should take one tablespoon before each meal,children - one teaspoon. If the cough is very strong, then you can take two spoons. It is better not to swallow the mixture right away, but to dissolve it in your mouth for a while.

Onion decoction is one of the most effective folk remedies for bronchitis. A properly prepared drink helps with acute bronchitis, relieving symptoms and promoting the elimination of phlegm in the shortest possible time. Also, thanks to the rich composition of onions (vitamins, trace elements, phytoncides), immunity is greatly stimulated.

Decoction of onions in milk with honey is one of the popular folk remedies for bronchitis.

To prepare the broth in the traditional way, you will need 3 medium-sized onions, 3 glasses of milk and honey. The onions are peeled and chopped, then added to a saucepan with milk and cooked until the onions are soft and translucent. Then the mixture should cool down, after which three teaspoons of honey should be added there (the number of spoons corresponds to the number of glasses of milk) and mix thoroughly. It is used in a tablespoon of broth 6-8 times a day, regardless of food intake. This is a folk remedy for bronchitis and cough in adults, since not all children will drink it - the taste, albeit rather mild, sweet, but still onion.

Another recipe is onion caramel. One and a half cups of sugar are added to a liter of water and boiled, adding two whole onion halves. The mixture is boiled until its amount visually decreases by half, after which the bulbs are removed from the solution, and it cools down. The resulting caramel can be eaten without additives, can be added to tea and drunk. Divide the whole mass into two equal parts, each of which is consumed throughout the day.

Treatment of bronchitis with folk remedies at home is often carried out using black radish juice. This juice has a mucolytic effect, which means the ability to thin phlegm and remove it - this is especially important in the treatment of sluggish chronic bronchitis or in the presence of a vomiting dry cough. The radish fruit is thoroughly washed, the top is cut off, and the core is removed (a kind of a bowl of pulp is formed). A spoonful of honey is added inside the "bowl", after which it is covered with the top and left to infuse overnight. By morning, the radish will release juice, which is an effective medicine. The dosage for an adult is 4 tablespoons per day, for children - 4 teaspoons.

Aloe juice is highly effective. You can buy it at the pharmacy or squeeze it yourself. Fresh juice is mixed with honey in a 1: 1 ratio, after which butter is added to the mixture until it thickens. Sometimes cocoa powder is added here. The mass is placed in the refrigerator, where it thickens. The mixture is consumed before meals 4-5 times a day for a teaspoon.

One of the richest medicinal properties of natural products is propolis. On its basis, a lot of drugs have been created that are effective due to the antibacterial effect, as well as the ability to enhance the overall resistance of the body. To prepare a home remedy, you will need 10 g of propolis, 100 g of butter and the same amount of honey. Propolis is thoroughly ground in a mortar, after which the butter is heated in a water bath. Pounded propolis is added to the liquid oil and mixed, after which honey is added. The drug is infused and cooled for about 15 minutes. It is important that the mixture does not boil and is not very hot - at high temperatures, the medicinal properties of bee products are lost, and the product will lose its effectiveness. The mixture should be taken,by diluting a teaspoon in a glass of water or warm herbal tea. The resulting drink is consumed three times a day on an empty stomach. Store the drug in the refrigerator.

A decoction of ginger enhances immunity, improves the activity of the villi of the bronchial mucosa (this property of bronchial cells is inhibited in obstructive bronchitis), has an antibacterial effect. Ginger root is quite effective when fresh, but the decoction is even better, especially for children. For cooking, grate the ginger on a fine grater so that it releases as much juice as possible, then pour boiling water or place it in a French press with hot water. When the broth is infused, you can add lemon juice and honey or sugar to taste. This tea is perfect for the prevention of not only bronchitis, but also other respiratory diseases.

In addition to drugs, compresses are used internally. The essence of the compresses is in the irritating effect on the skin receptors, which causes the expansion of the subcutaneous vessels of the capillary bed, improved circulation, and a local increase in temperature. This effect leads to an increase in the concentration of immune cells at the site of inflammation.

To prepare the compress, you will need butter, pork or goat fat (ghee), mustard powder and a little vodka or alcohol. All components in the amount of three tablespoons are heated and mixed in a saucepan until a homogeneous mass is obtained, and then cooled. As it cools, the mixture becomes harder, but still warm - at this stage, the cakes from the fatty paste should be wrapped in gauze (one or two layers are enough) and put on the patient's back to the left and right of the spine (the place where the main bronchi lie). The cakes need to be squeezed, spread out a little, and then wrap the chest with a towel and leave overnight. They can be reused by reheating.

You can make a mixture of mustard and honey - akin to homemade mustard plaster. This requires mixing a tablespoon of chopped grain mustard, honey, vinegar, sunflower oil, and two tablespoons of flour to maintain the structure. All components of the cake are added to the dishes in a water bath and heated, mixing them into a homogeneous mass. After that, flour is added to form a dough. The cake is ready. It is wrapped in wet gauze, placed on the chest, and covered with cellophane and a thick towel on top. From time to time it is necessary to monitor the condition of the skin and ask the patient how intense the burning sensation is in the area of the compress. If the skin is intensely red and the burning sensation is excessive, the procedure should be discontinued. If the compress does not cause discomfort, it can be kept for several hours.

Horseradish has an excellent warming effect - the root is rubbed and applied to dry skin, covered with gauze. The compress lasts up to 20 minutes, but with a strong burning sensation, this time should be shortened so as not to cause a severe burn. After removing the horseradish, honey or melted fat is applied to the reddened skin, covered with gauze and cellophane, tightly wrapped with a towel or scarf. This is how the patient spends the night. The procedure is repeated every evening until healing.

You can also warm up the skin with alcohol. To do this, prepare a mixture of half a liter of vodka and the same amount of boiled water. A small towel is dropped into the resulting liquid, wrung out and applied to the chest on both sides of the sternum and on the back, after which it is wrapped in cellophane and a warm cloth.

A proven traditional method of treating bronchitis is the use of alcoholic tinctures in various interpretations. One of them: 0.5 kg of raspberries, 0.5 liters of vodka, 150 g of honey and juice of a whole lemon. The resulting mixture is stirred and insisted for 10 days, after which it is taken 1 spoonful in the morning on an empty stomach, as well as at bedtime.

You can make tinctures with natural wine - they should be served warm. It is necessary to take 200 g of aloe (agave) and grind into gruel, add 200 g of honey, 20 finely crushed walnuts and 0.5 liters of wine. Insist 5 days, use in the morning and in the evening for ¼ glass of a heated, but not hot mixture (too hot a mixture will lose its medicinal properties).

A fairly effective method of treating bronchitis is the use of juices of various plants. For example, cabbage juice has an expectorant effect and helps to thin phlegm in the bronchi. The same effect is characteristic of lingonberry juice, which also has a huge range of vitamins. For severe coughs, carrot juice is used to relieve symptoms (for example, to get a better night's sleep).

Prevention of bronchitis

Obviously, the prevention of the disease is much better than its long-term treatment, albeit with folk recipes. It should be understood that, first of all, you should constantly maintain the body's resistance at the proper level. For this, several methods are used, the most effective of which is hardening in combination with proper nutrition, a healthy lifestyle. The hardening method is designed for adults, but children can also be involved in hardening, only the water temperature should be adjusted. Classic hardening begins with daily dousing with water at room temperature (on average 23 ° C) with a further gradual decrease by 1 ° C every 2-3 days. After pouring, rubbing with a towel should follow, which improves microcirculation. After that, you can perform a set of physical exercises.

You can also wipe off with a towel soaked in cold water, in which case the water temperature may be lower (about 18-19 ° C).

Another effective method of stimulating immunity is a contrast shower. Warm water starts up, after which the temperature drops sharply or gradually to cold. This is followed by a warm stream of water again. These cycles are repeated up to 10 times, completed with cold water, and then rubbed vigorously with a towel.

Hardening serves only to prevent the disease, but in no case is it carried out directly during bronchitis - this will only aggravate the course of the disease.

Breathing exercises complement the hardening perfectly - they improve the condition of the upper respiratory tract. They can be used at the stage of convalescence, that is, convalescence after bronchitis, breathing exercises accelerate recovery.
