Treatment of tonsillitis with folk remedies is carried out in combination with conservative methods, including the appointment of drugs, inhalations, rinsing and physiotherapy. Traditional medicine in this case acts as an auxiliary therapy and is aimed at reducing or eliminating the symptoms of the disease.

If the patient does not improve after the treatment, and relapses of the disease occur several times a year, they resort to removing the tonsils - tonsillectomy. It is also necessary in cases when, against the background of a long-term presence of a focus of infection in the body, there are severe complications from the joints and heart.

The palatine tonsils are part of the body's immune system and perform a protective function - they do not allow pathogenic organisms to get inside with the air. However, with prolonged and / or frequent inflammatory processes in the pharynx, they lose their ability to resist pathogens and turn into a focus of infection.

For the first time, acute tonsillitis (tonsillitis) can develop with frequent hypothermia, against the background of infection with staphylococci, streptococci, adenoviruses or fungal infections. If the patient does not receive timely medical assistance, or if he has repeated tonsillitis within a year, chronic tonsillitis is diagnosed. Chronization of the inflammatory process also serves as a decrease in immunity, improper or inadequate nutrition, frequent viral infections.

Pathology is more common in children than in adults. In order to avoid the removal of tonsils, it is most important to consult a pediatrician or pediatric ENT for advice in a timely manner and start treatment as soon as possible. The earlier it is started, the higher the chances of permanently stopping the symptoms of the disease.

Along with conservative methods, regular hardening, frequent ventilation and wet cleaning of the room where the child spends the most time is recommended.

Can tonsillitis be cured with folk methods at home?

In most cases, conservative treatment of the disease does not require the patient to stay permanently in the hospital. Only when prescribing physiotherapy does a visit to a doctor become necessary, since they require special equipment and trained personnel.

Often, the ENT prescribes the necessary medicines and a number of folk remedies to the patient as an auxiliary therapy. These include rinsing, inhalation, taking decoctions or herbal infusions, homemade preparations from propolis, honey or vegetable juice.

It should be borne in mind that folk remedies are not used as monotherapy for chronic tonsillitis. Only in combination with other methods prescribed by an otolaryngologist, home treatment of pathology can be effective.

Essential oils

The cause of tonsillitis in most cases is a decrease in immunity and damage to the body by streptococcal infection. The use of essential oils can help reduce pain, improve general condition and quickly stop symptoms of the disease. They are used for steam inhalation and aromatherapy.

The most effective oils for steam inhalation are lavender, benzoin and thyme oils. They have a pronounced analgesic and antiseptic effect.

To carry out the procedure, you need to boil water in a small saucepan and add a few drops of oil to it. Then the patient should tilt his head over the pan, cover it with a large towel, inhale the steam slowly and deeply with closed eyes. The duration of inhalation varies from 3 to 10 minutes. To avoid burns, it is important not to bring your face closer to the surface of the water, but to keep it at a distance of 10-15 cm.

The essential oils of ginger, bergamot, geranium, fir, lime, eucalyptus and lemon are widely used for aromatherapy. From 3 to 7 drops of oil are added to the bowl of the aroma lamp, light a candle and deeply inhale the aroma released. They are also used for cold inhalations - a few drops are applied to a cloth napkin or handkerchief and the smell is inhaled for 5-10 minutes.

The development of a chronic form of pathology indicates a low body resistance. In order to increase the body's immune defenses and reduce the manifestations of the disease, it is recommended to follow the rules of proper nutrition and drinking regimen, consume garlic and foods rich in vitamin C every day, and also do a warming massage using tea tree or eucalyptus oil.

Propolis recipes

Propolis is a natural antibiotic that effectively relieves inflammation and neutralizes bacteria, has disinfecting and immunostimulating properties. The high content of flavonoids in its composition increases the activity of macrophages, which accelerates the destruction of viruses and bacteria.

Unlike antibiotics, propolis contains hundreds of chemical compounds, and bacteria do not develop resistance to it. Natural wax also inhibits the growth of pathogenic flora and actively destroys it, while not causing side effects from the gastrointestinal tract.

According to reviews, the most effective folk remedies for treating chronic tonsillitis with propolis are recipes such as:

  • tincture: crushed propolis should be poured with alcohol in a 1: 1 ratio in a glass container, tightly closed with a lid and left in a cool dark place for 5 days. It is recommended to take the tincture 20 drops 3 times a day with water. The course duration is 2 weeks. It is recommended to carry out 3 courses with an interval of 1 week;
  • a product based on propolis, butter and honey: natural wax must be crushed and melted with butter in a water bath in a 1: 1 ratio. The resulting liquid should be thoroughly mixed, cooled to room temperature and honey added, the amount of which will not exceed 20% of total volume. In finished form, the product is stored in a glass container in the refrigerator. Immediately before taking it, it is recommended to thoroughly gargle the throat from the remains of food and mucus. Adults and children take ½ teaspoon of the product 3 times a day.

It should be borne in mind that preparations with propolis are contraindicated in pancreatitis, pathologies of the liver and bile ducts, kidney stones, as well as hypersensitivity to bee products. In this regard, it is imperative to consult a doctor before taking them.
