- auxiliary components: cetostearyl alcohol (cetyl alcohol - 60%, stearic alcohol - 40%), macrogol cetostearate, sodium dihydrogen phosphate dihydrate, sodium hydroxide, alpha-tocopherol, liquid paraffin, soft white paraffin, chlorocresol, purified water.
Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics
Fucicort is a topical cream that has a local anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effect. The mechanism of action is due to the combined composition of the drug, which includes a glucocorticosteroid in the form of betamethasone and an antibiotic in the form of fusidic acid.
Betamethasone is a strong glucocorticosteroid, its pharmacological action is to suppress vasodilation, edema and pain in the lesion.
Fusidic acid inhibits protein synthesis in bacteria, exhibiting antibacterial activity mainly against gram-positive microorganisms, such as Staphylococcus aureus, Propionibacterium acnes, Corynebacterium. Sensitivity to fusidic acid is shown by bacteria resistant to other antibiotics, including penicillin.
Pharmacokinetics
The absorption of betamethasone when the cream is applied to intact skin does not exceed 2%. Its systemic effects more often occur against the background of the treatment of inflammatory processes in large areas of the body or under occlusive dressings.
Betamethasone is metabolized in the liver, excreted through the kidneys.
The absorption of fusidic acid into the systemic circulation is considered insignificant.
Indications for use
According to the instructions, Fucicort is used to treat dermatitis, allergic eczema or toxidermia in case of infection with microorganisms sensitive to fusidic acid.
Contraindications
- violation of the integrity of the skin in the area of application of the cream;
- treatment of the mucous membranes of the body;
- perioral dermatitis;
- rosacea;
- youthful acne;
- primary infectious diseases of the skin (fungal, as well as bacterial and viral etiology);
- lupus;
- cutaneous manifestations of syphilis;
- age up to one year;
- hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.
Fucicort should be prescribed with caution for the treatment of infections on the face, in the periorbital region, areas of diaper skin, with itching in the perianal or genital area.
Only on the recommendation of a doctor is it allowed to use the drug during pregnancy and lactation.
Instructions for the use of Fucicort: method and dosage
Fucicort cream is applied externally, applying a thin layer to the affected area. If necessary, the use of occlusive dressings is allowed.
The recommended frequency of procedures is 2-3 times a day. The duration of the course of treatment is up to 14 days.
Side effects
- on the part of the immune system: the frequency has not been established - allergic reactions;
- dermatological reactions: infrequently - itching, skin irritation, rash, exacerbation of eczema, burning or tingling of the skin at the site of application; frequency not established - dry skin, urticaria, contact dermatitis, erythema, skin atrophy; possibly - telangiectasia, striae, prickly heat, folliculitis (steroid acne), perioral dermatitis, depigmentation, rosacea, hemorrhagic rash, skin maceration, hypertrichosis;
- others: long-term use of glucocorticosteroids in high doses can cause the development of undesirable systemic effects.
Overdose
Symptoms: as a result of an excessively long period of glucocorticosteroid use, secondary adrenal insufficiency may develop, which is usually reversible.
Treatment: the appointment of symptomatic therapy.
special instructions
It should be borne in mind that frequent or very long-term use of the cream increases the risk of the body's resistance to the action of antibacterial agents.
The use of Fucicort cream in the periorbital area increases the risk of developing glaucoma.
When treating large areas of the skin or applying the drug under occlusive dressings, a systemic effect of betamethasone is possible.
If skin irritation and other symptoms of hypersensitivity develop, further treatment with the cream should be discontinued and a doctor should be consulted.
Abrupt cessation of treatment can cause withdrawal symptoms, manifested by a tingling or burning sensation, reddening of the skin, exacerbation of psoriasis. In this regard, it is recommended to gradually increase the interval between procedures until the complete cancellation of treatment.
Atrophic changes after prolonged exposure to potent corticosteroids are most susceptible to the skin of the face, external genital organs, the inner side of the upper and lower extremities.
The reason for the development of allergic reactions may be the content of chlorocresol in the cream, local skin rashes - the presence of cetostearyl alcohol.
Influence on the ability to drive vehicles and complex mechanisms
The use of Fucicort does not affect the patient's ability to perform potentially hazardous activities, including driving.
Application during pregnancy and lactation
During pregnancy and lactation, the drug can be used only on the recommendation of a doctor, strictly observing all his prescriptions.
Prescribe Fucicort during gestation only in cases where the expected benefit from therapy to the mother outweighs the potential risk to the fetus.
During lactation, the cream should not be applied to the mammary glands; if it is necessary to prescribe long-term treatment using high doses of the drug, breastfeeding should be discontinued.
Pediatric use
The use of Fucicort is contraindicated for the treatment of children under the age of one year.
When treating children, it is recommended to use the minimum effective dose of the drug necessary to ensure the clinical effect. With prolonged application of a glucocorticosteroid to large areas of the body in children, it is possible to suppress the function of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal system and develop Cushing's syndrome. The systemic action of betamethasone can cause disturbances in the growth and development of the child.
Drug interactions
There is no information about the interaction of Fucicort with other drugs.
