Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics
Furasol is one of the antimicrobial drugs derived from nitrofuran. Effective against gram-positive cocci and gram-negative rods (Salmonella spp., Shigella spp., Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp., Klebsiella spp.). Most strains of Serratia spp., Proteus spp., As well as Acinetobacter spp. Are resistant to the drug.
The mechanism of action of furazidine potassium is associated with inhibition of nucleic acid synthesis. Depending on the concentration, it has a bacteriostatic or bactericidal effect. The bacteriostatic concentration against most bacteria is 0.01–0.02 mg / ml, the bactericidal concentration is approximately 2 times higher.
In microorganisms, under the influence of nitrofurans, the activity of the respiratory chain and the cycle of tricarboxylic acids (Krebs cycle) is suppressed, as well as suppression of other biochemical processes is observed, which leads to the destruction of their cytoplasmic membrane or membrane. Nitrofurans increase the complement titer and the ability of leukocytes to phagocytose microorganisms.
