Fluorouracil is an antineoplastic drug. Representative of the antimetabolite group.
pharmachologic effect
An anti-inflammatory agent from the group of antimetabolites, which reduces the rate of chemical reactions necessary for the division of tumor cells by blocking the formation of DNA, and, in particular, by reducing the activity of the enzyme thymidylate synthetase, and the formation of RNA with the intervention of Fluorouracil in its structure.

Fluorouracil is available in the form of a solution for intravascular and intracavitary administration.
Indications for the use of Fluorouracil
According to the instructions, Fluorouracil should be taken if a patient has colon or rectal cancer, esophageal cancer, stomach cancer, primary liver cancer, ovarian cancer, cervical cancer, bladder cancer, various malignant tumors located on the neck and head, prostate cancer, adrenal cancer, penile cancer, or carcinoid.
Mode of application
The route of administration, regimen and doses of Fluorouracil in each case is determined personally with the patient. All this is determined depending on the patient's well-being, stage and degree of the disease, the state of the hematopoietic system, and the chemotherapy plan.
Fluorouracil is usually injected into the body by intravenous stream or drip, intra-arterial and intracavitary. There are several standard treatment regimens with Fluorouracil:
- 0.5 g / m2 or 12-14 mg / kg every day for 3 - 5 days, the pause between courses is 1 month.
- 0.6 g / m2 once a week, course duration 6 - 10 weeks.
- 0.6 g / m2 on the 1st and 8th days with other antineoplastic drugs, alternating with the introduction of intravenous drip for 4 - 5 days.
Side effects of Fluorouracil

Contraindications

Fluorouracil should be taken with extreme caution in those patients who have a violation of the liver and kidneys.
