Formalin is a disinfectant, antiseptic, cauterizing, deodorant and astringent drug.
Dosage form
Formalin is a clear liquid with a pungent specific odor.
Formalin solution consists of 40% formaldehyde, 52% water and 8% methyl alcohol. The active ingredient is formaldehyde, which has deodorizing and disinfecting effects. Also, the use of Formalin is effective for the preservation of anatomical preparations.
Pharmacological action of Formalin
According to the instructions, Formalin has the ability to induce protein coagulation, which is widely used in the preservation and conservation of biological materials (when creating anatomical biomodels), as well as as an antiseptic.
Formalin properties are used in the production of phenol-formaldehyde oligomers.
Indications
Formalin solution is shown as a deodorant and disinfectant.
According to the instructions, Formalin is used for washing the skin of the legs, arms, armpits with signs of excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis), as well as with a strong smell of sweat (bromhidrosis).
In addition, the properties of Formalin are widely used to disinfect various medical equipment and personal care items.
There are many solution-based medicines. One of them is the well-known Teymurov's paste, which is used to treat diaper rash, some fungal lesions of the skin, increased sweating.
Method of administration of Formalin
For washing the skin, use a 0.5-2% formalin solution. To wash the soles of the feet, use a 3-5% solution.
Daily use of the drug is highly discouraged, as it can irritate the skin.
In case of irritation, it is recommended to stop using Formalin, and sprinkle the inflamed skin areas with talcum powder.
The optimal use of the solution is no more than one or two times a week.
Formalin properties are used to treat mycoses and fungal diseases of the feet. The solution is used to disinfect shoes and insoles. For this purpose, the insoles and the inner surface of the shoes are wiped with a 25% solution, after which the shoes must be ventilated for several hours until the pungent odor disappears.
Contraindications
Formalin is contraindicated in hypersensitivity to formaldehyde and in inflammatory processes of the skin.
It is strictly forbidden to use the drug during pregnancy and lactation, as it is a toxic compound and has an irritating effect on tissues.
Formalin side effects
Most often, with prolonged use of the solution in high concentrations, it can cause irritation on the skin.
