Woolly-flowered astragalus (cat pea) is a herbaceous perennial plant from the legume family, the pharmacy name is Herba Astragali dasyanthi, and is listed in the Red Book.

Chemical composition

Astragalus woolly-flowered is used in medical practice due to the content of the following biologically active components in its aerial part and in the roots:

  • Flavonoids - isorhamnetin, quercetin, kaempferol, astragaloside;
  • Triterpene glycosides - daziantosides;
  • Coumarins and oxycoumarins;
  • Tannins;
  • Amino acids;
  • Vitamins;
  • Micro- and macroelements - selenium, silicon, calcium, iron, aluminum, cobalt, magnesium, zinc, manganese, copper, chromium, molybdenum.

The beneficial properties of the woolly astragalus are due to the chemical composition, thanks to which the plant has found wide application in Indian, Korean, Chinese and Tibetan medicine. It is believed to be superior to even ginseng in its beneficial effects.

Preparations from this plant stimulate cardiac activity, especially when overworked, slow down the heart rate, dilate the vessels of some internal organs and moderately reduce blood pressure, accelerate blood flow, activate muscle functionality, improve urine separation and reduce the level of ammonia in the blood.

Indications for use

As a result of medical research, it was revealed that the use of astragalus woolly has a positive effect in the following diseases:

  • The initial form of hypertension is a significant improvement in well-being, a decrease in blood pressure, elimination of headache, dizziness, tinnitus, insomnia, pain and interruptions in the heart, paresthesia;
  • Hypertension - increased cerebral circulation, as a result of which there is a decrease in blood pressure in the temporal artery and the central retinal artery;
  • Ischemic heart disease - cessation of pain in the heart, improvement of ECG indicators and normalization of the capillary picture against the background of a decrease in blood pressure, a significant improvement in well-being;

The infusion of astragalus woolly-flowered is prepared as follows: take two tablespoons of raw materials, pour 200 ml of boiling water, boil for five minutes, then stand for four hours at room temperature.

You can take such an infusion several tablespoons 2-3 times a day for hypertension, angina pectoris, chronic heart failure, accompanied by tachycardia, acute and chronic glomerulonephritis, scrofula, rheumatic pains, edema of various etiologies, renal hypertension.

In the form of rinsing, the infusion is used for periodontal disease, stomatitis and gingivitis. It can also be added to bath water for skin problems, or as a topical lotion.

To prepare a diuretic or expectorant, take 6 g of plant roots, pour 200 ml with water, keep in a water bath for half an hour. After cooling and straining, the broth is brought up to 200 ml with pure water and 2 tablespoons are taken 2-3 times a day. The prepared product can also be used for general strengthening of the body, maintaining cardiac activity.

In the treatment of diseases of the female genital organs, the use of astragalus woolly is shown in the form of douching. For this, two tablespoons of raw materials are poured with 400 ml of boiling water, kept on fire for 10 minutes and insisted for 60 minutes. The procedure is carried out twice a day, using 200 ml of broth at a time.
