Fiberlex is a herbal laxative.
Release form and composition
Fiberlex is produced in the form of a powder for preparing a suspension for oral administration, including with a flavoring agent, fruit or orange: pieces from the outer layer of seeds up to 3 mm in length and up to 1.5 mm in width, yellowish-white in color, various shapes, fragile, with inclusions of other parts of the seed of various shapes and colors up to 2 mm in diameter; powder with flavoring has a specific fruity or orange smell (in a sachet made of three-layer foil, 5.15 g each (powder without flavoring) or 5.3 g (powder with orange or fruit flavor), 10 sachets in a cardboard box).
1 sachet contains:
- active substance: oval plantain seed coat - 5 g;
- auxiliary component: aspartame.
Additionally in a sachet with flavoring:
- fruit: flavor "Tropical Fruit PDF-214";
- orange: orange flavor O-1-15617-J-71.
Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics
Fiberlex has a laxative effect due to the following property of the active substance: the powder swells as a result of water absorption, increasing the volume of intestinal contents, which in turn causes irritation of the receptors of the intestinal mucosa.
Indications for use
- chronic and acute forms of constipation;
- hemorrhoids;
- anal fissures - violation of the integrity of the mucous membrane of the outer part of the anal canal;
- the period after surgery in the anorectal region - to soften the stool.
Contraindications
- intestinal obstruction;
- pathologies that cause a narrowing of the lumen of the gastrointestinal tract (GIT);
- period of pregnancy;
- breast-feeding;
- age up to 18 years;
- individual hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.
Instructions for the use of Fiberlex: method and dosage
The finished suspension is taken orally 0.5 hours before meals. To prepare the drug, the contents of 1 sachet are mixed with warm or cold water in an amount of 200 ml and slowly drunk.
Recommended dosage: 1 sachet 2 times a day.
The course of treatment depends on the clinical indication and may have the following duration:
- acute constipation: 1–2 days (before bowel movements);
- chronic constipation: up to 28 days, after a 7-day break, the course can be repeated if necessary;
- hemorrhoids, anal fissures: up to 28 days, the achievement of the clinical effect is considered to be the absence of discomfort during bowel movements. If necessary, after a 7-day break, the course can be repeated;
- softening of the stool after surgery in the anorectal region: the doctor prescribes the duration of the course individually, usually it is no more than 28 days.
Side effects
Allergic reactions may develop against the background of Fiberlex.
Overdose
Overdose symptoms have not been established.

A prerequisite for the use of Fiberlex is the use of 1.5-2 liters of liquid per day. Inadequate fluid intake can irritate the esophagus or intestines, especially in elderly patients.
Application during pregnancy and lactation
According to the instructions, Fiberlex is contraindicated for use during the period of gestation and breastfeeding.
Pediatric use
The use of the drug is contraindicated in children and adolescents under 18 years of age.
Use in the elderly
When treating elderly patients, the risk of irritation of the esophagus or intestines increases due to the consumption of insufficient daily amount of fluid during the course of treatment.
Drug interactions
With the simultaneous use of Fiberlex, a slight slowdown or decrease in the degree of absorption in the gastrointestinal tract of concomitant therapy drugs is possible.
