Black chokeberry

Aronia, or black chokeberry, is a shrub from the Rosaceae family. For medicinal and prophylactic purposes, fresh, dried or frozen fruits are used, as well as their processed products - jam, preserves, jelly, candied fruit, juice, compote or tincture.

Chemical composition

Of interest for medicine are the fruits of chokeberry with an astringent, sweet and sour taste, which contain: phenolic acids and flavonoids, fiber, pectins, vitamins B, C, P, E, molybdenum, copper, manganese, iodine, boron, potassium, tannins, giving the berries astringency, amygdalin glycoside.

Beneficial features

Fresh fruits of the shrub are used as a vitamin agent, their juice helps to strengthen the walls of blood vessels, reduces emotional imbalance, and regulates the processes of inhibition and excitation in the brain.

The berries are harvested in September-October. The fruits can be stored fresh at temperatures up to +5 ° C for 2 months, they can be dried (at a temperature of +60 ° C).

The leaves contain substances that improve liver function, the formation and outflow of bile.
