Amnesia
Amnesia (amnesia; Greek amnesia - memory loss, forgetfulness) is one of the memory disorders, manifested in the form of a loss of the ability to retain and reproduce previously acquired knowledge.
The following types of amnesia are distinguished:
- Anterograde (amnesia anterograda; Latin anterius - before, before + gradior - to go) - amnesia for events that occurred immediately after the end of a morbid mental state or a disorder of consciousness;
- Anteroretrogradnaya (amnesia anteroretrograda; lat. Anterius - before, before + retro - behind + gradior - to go) - amnesia for events that preceded a morbid mental state or a disorder of consciousness, and also followed it;
- Autohypnotic (amnesia autohypnotica) - a term used in psychoanalysis to denote amnesia for an experience or event that arose due to their subconscious repression;
- Katatimna (amnesia catathymica; Greek katathymeo - to lose heart, lose heart) - amnesia only for certain events and persons;
- Congradnaya (amnesia congrada; Latin prefix con- - together, together with + gradior - to go) - amnesia for a certain period of time, which corresponds to a period of a morbid mental state or disorder of consciousness;
- Negativistic - amnesia, which is caused by a person's internal resistance to reproducing certain events, facts, etc.;
- Posthypnotic (amnesia posthypnotica) - amnesia for images, events and representations that arose during hypnosis; comes after the appropriate suggestion;
- Progressive (amnesia progressiva) - amnesia that spreads sequentially from knowledge acquired later to previously acquired;
- Retardated (amnesia retardata) - amnesia for a period of a painful mental state or disorder of consciousness, which occurs only some time after its end;
- Retrograde (amnesia retrograda; Latin retro - behind + gradior - to go) - amnesia for events that preceded a morbid mental state or a disorder of consciousness;
- Fixation - amnesia for recent and current events with preserved memory for previously acquired knowledge;
- Episodic (synonym: periodic amnesia) - amnesia occurring repeatedly for limited periods of time.
