Allergic reaction

Allergic reaction is the general name for the clinical manifestations of the body's hypersensitivity to an allergen.

Allocate:

  • A delayed-type allergic reaction (synonym: cytergic reaction) develops within 24-48 hours from the onset of exposure to a specific allergen. The main role in the formation of a delayed-type allergic reaction is played by the interaction of the allergen with sensitized lymphocytes. A delayed-type allergic reaction has a significant effect on the pathogenesis of some infectious diseases (brucellosis, tuberculosis, leprosy, etc.) and in the mechanism of transplant rejection;
  • An immediate allergic reaction (synonym: chimergic reaction) develops 15-20 minutes after exposure to a specific allergen, for example, in the case of anaphylactic shock. The main role in the occurrence of an immediate type of allergic reaction belongs to the interaction of the allergen with allergic antibodies (reagins);
  • Allergic cross reaction - occurs on cross-reacting (common) antigens;
  • Systemic allergic reaction - most clearly manifested in any organ system.
