Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics

The active component of Fenistil Pencivir - penciclovir - has antiviral efficacy against the varicella-zoster virus (Varicella zoster) and herpes simplex viruses (Herpes simplex) types 1 and 2.

These viruses can be in an inactive form in the body for a long time. Under favorable concomitant conditions, for example, as a result of overwork, colds, acute respiratory infections (acute respiratory viral diseases), influenza, the virus is activated, and it begins to multiply. The external manifestation of the process is the development of blistering rashes (so-called fever or "colds"), mainly on the lips or around them. Due to the use of penciclovir, the virus is blocked, its reproduction stops. Fenistil Pencivir accelerates the healing process, reduces the intensity of pain, and shortens the period of possible transmission of a viral infection.

Pharmacokinetics

Fenistil Pencivir is practically not subject to systemic absorption, provided it is used externally. It is not possible to detect the presence of penciclovir in the blood or urine of healthy volunteers after applying the cream in doses significantly higher than the therapeutic ones.

After penetration into cells affected by the virus, penciclovir is rapidly metabolized into penciclovir triphosphate, which has pharmacological activity and remains in the affected cells for 12 hours.

Indications for use

Fenistil Pencivir is recommended for the topical treatment of recurrent herpes simplex localized on the lips (herpes labialis).

Contraindications

  • children under 12 years of age;
  • increased individual sensitivity to famciclovir, penciclovir, any other components of the drug.

Instructions for the use of Fenistil Pentsivir: method and dosage

Cream Fenistil Pencivir is applied externally by squeezing a small volume onto a disposable applicator, cotton swab or fingertip and applying to the affected area.

Recommended dosage for adult patients and children over 12 years of age: 1 application every 2 hours (up to 8 times a day). The duration of the therapeutic course is 4 days.

The use of a cream with a tinted effect allows you to mask the areas affected by herpes on the lips and on the skin around them.

Side effects

There may be negative side effects such as burning, tingling or numbness immediately after applying the cream.

Overdose

There is no data.

special instructions

Hands should be thoroughly washed before and after applying the cream.

Therapy should be started as early as possible, with the appearance of the first symptoms of infection. But if this moment is missed, then due to the application of the cream, even at the stage of herpes development in the form of bubbles, the cure time is reduced, the affected areas are healed, the pain sensations decrease and the duration of the peeling of the crust formed during viral exposure is shortened.

If the patient has a weakened immune system or the disease is uncertain, the doctor decides on the need to use Fenistil Pencivir individually.

The cream should be applied exclusively to the herpes-affected areas on and around the lips. It is not recommended to use the drug in the eye area, on the mucous membranes of the mouth, nasal cavity or on the genitals.

A full course of therapy with Fenistil Pencivir cream is required for 4 days to get the maximum effect from the drug (therapy should be continued even after the signs of infection disappear after one to two days of treatment).

In the event of a worsening of the condition, as well as if there is no improvement in well-being after 4 days from the start of therapy, you should consult a doctor.
