Elokom Lotion is a glucocorticosteroid for topical use.

Release form and composition

Dosage form of the drug Elokom Lotion - solution for external use 0.1%: colorless or slightly yellowish (30 ml in a dropper bottle, in a cardboard box 1 dropper bottle).

Composition of 1000 mg solution:

  • active substance: mometasone furoate - 1 mg;
  • auxiliary components: isopropanol, propylene glycol, hyprolose, sodium dihydrogen phosphate dihydrate, phosphoric acid 85%, purified water.

Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics

Mometasone has anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, vasoconstrictor properties. In vitro experiments have shown that mometasone is an inhibitor of the synthesis of three cytokines involved in the development of the inflammatory process and its maintenance: interleukin-1 (IL-1), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNFα).

Pharmacokinetics

8 hours after applying the lotion to intact skin, about 0.7% of the used dose of the drug is found in the systemic circulation.

Inflammation and damage to the integrity of the skin accelerates the absorption of the drug.

Indications for use

According to the instructions, Elokom Lotion is indicated for the elimination of inflammation and itching caused by dermatoses that can be treated with glucocorticosteroids (including psoriasis), including dermatoses with lesions of hairy skin areas.

Contraindications

Absolute:

  • perioral dermatitis;
  • rosacea;
  • bacterial, fungal or viral skin infections such as herpes, chicken pox, shingles, etc.;
  • syphilis;
  • tuberculosis;
  • skin reactions after vaccination;
  • lactation period;
  • age up to 2 years;
  • hypersensitivity to drug components or other glucocorticosteroids.

Elokom Lotion should be used with caution on large surfaces and in case of long-term treatment, especially in children.

It is not recommended to apply the solution to the skin of the face and natural skin folds; also, occlusive dressings should not be used in the treatment.

Instructions for using Elokom Lotion: method and dosage

Elokom Lotion is applied externally by applying a few drops of the solution (by bringing the nose of the dropper bottle to the surface of the skin and pressing on the bottle) on the affected skin surface and rubbing with massaging movements until completely absorbed. Frequency rate of application - 1 time per day. The duration of therapy is determined individually and depends on the effectiveness of the drug, the patient's susceptibility, as well as the presence and severity of side effects.

Side effects

When using the drug, the following undesirable effects may appear: dry skin, itching, folliculitis, furunculosis, hypertrichosis, acne, perioral dermatitis, hypopigmentation, allergic contact dermatitis, skin atrophy and maceration, secondary infection, striae, prickly heat. In case of irritation and burning sensation at the site of application, it is recommended to discontinue the drug and appropriate therapy.

Overdose

A symptom of an overdose of Elokom Lotion is inhibition of the function of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal system, including secondary adrenal insufficiency.

Symptomatic treatment is recommended, if necessary, correction of the violation of water-electrolyte metabolism.

special instructions

When using the drug on large areas of the skin for a long period of time, as well as under occlusive dressings, its absorption into the systemic circulation is enhanced. In such patients, there is a risk of suppression of the function of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal system and the development of Itsenko-Cushing syndrome, in connection with which they need especially careful monitoring.

Avoid contact with the eyes.

If a concomitant skin infection develops, the use of an appropriate antiviral, antifungal or antibacterial drug is recommended. If the condition does not improve, glucocorticosteroids should be discontinued until the infection clears up.

The use of the drug can make it difficult to diagnose some skin diseases due to changes in their symptoms.

With long-term use, drug withdrawal should be gradual to avoid the development of withdrawal syndrome.

Side effects characteristic of the systemic intake of glucocorticosteroids, including suppression of adrenal function, can occur when applied topically, especially in children.

Application during pregnancy and lactation

The use of the drug Elokom Lotion during pregnancy is possible only in small doses, for a short time and only in cases where the intended benefit to the mother outweighs the possible risk to the fetus.

If it is necessary to use the drug during lactation, breastfeeding should be discontinued.

Pediatric use

The risk of developing Itsenko-Cushing syndrome, as well as suppression of the function of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal system when using topical glucocorticosteroids in children, is higher. In addition, their long-term use can lead to growth and development disorders, and therefore in pediatrics, the drug should be used in the minimum effective dose.

Drug interactions

There is no information on interactions with other medicinal products.
