Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics
The active ingredient of the drug - chondroitin sulfate - is a high molecular weight mucopolysaccharide that slows down bone resorption, reduces the loss of calcium ions, and participates in the formation of cartilage tissue.
The drug improves calcium-phosphorus metabolism in cartilaginous tissue, inhibits degenerative processes in cartilaginous and connective tissues. Accelerates the regenerative processes in the cartilage. Suppresses the activity of enzymes that cause damage to cartilage tissue. Increases the production of intra-articular fluid. Stimulates the synthesis of glycosaminoglycans. Promotes the regeneration of the cartilaginous surfaces of the joints and articular bag.
Chondroitin sulfate is structurally close to heparin, and therefore has the ability to prevent the formation of fibrin thrombi in the subchondral and synovial microvasculature.
Chondroitin-VERTEX reduces pain syndrome, increases the range of motion in the affected joint. It slows down the progression of joint diseases such as osteochondrosis and osteoarthritis.
Pharmacokinetics
In experimental studies carried out on mice, the radioactive isotope 3 H-chondroitin sulfate was used. Data were obtained that the drug is absorbed by only 14%. The auxiliary component dimethyl sulfoxide contained in the gel improves the penetration of Chondroitin through cell membranes.
After applying Chondroitin-VERTEX to the skin, the active substance quickly but selectively penetrates the joint, reaching a maximum concentration within 30 minutes. Subsequently, it is excreted in a two-phase way. The fast phase of elimination is completed 1 hour after the application of the drug.
Chondroitin sulfate is retained in the joint for about 5 hours.
