Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics

Chondrogluxide is one of the drugs that regulate the metabolism in cartilage tissue (chondroprotector). It stimulates the regeneration of cartilage tissue, has an analgesic and anti-inflammatory effect.

The active substances of Chondrogluxid take part in the synthesis of connective tissue, stimulate tissue regeneration and help prevent the processes of cartilage destruction.

Properties of active ingredients:

  • sodium chondroitin sulfate: is an acidic mucopolysaccharide from the cartilaginous tissue of the trachea of cattle, a stimulator of the repair of connective (including cartilaginous) tissue. Stimulates the synthesis of proteoglycans and type II collagen, the formation of components of articular cartilage, and also protects hyaluron from enzymatic degradation (suppression of hyaluronidase activity) and the damaging effect of free radicals. It stimulates the mechanisms of cartilage repair, maintains the viscosity of the synovial fluid and inhibits the activity of enzymes that break down cartilage (elastase, hyaluronidase). In the treatment of osteoarthritis, relieves the symptoms of the disease and reduces the need for non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs;
  • glucosamine: is a specific substrate and stimulator of the synthesis of hyaluronic acid and proteoglycans, participates in the biosynthesis of proteoglycans and hyaluronic acid, has chondroprotective properties, selectively affects articular cartilage, inhibits the formation of peroxide radicals and enzymes that damage cartilage tissue.

Pharmacokinetics

The bioavailability of glucosamine when taken orally is 25% (the effect of the first passage through the liver). The highest concentrations of the substance are found in the kidneys, liver and articular cartilage. Approximately 30% of the dose persists for a long time in muscle and bone tissues. Excretion of glucosamine occurs mainly unchanged by the kidneys; part of the substance is excreted by the intestines. The half-life is 68 hours.

The concentration of chondroitin sulfate in plasma when taken orally in a daily dose of 800 mg (once or twice a day, 400 mg) increases over 24 hours. Its absolute bioavailability is 12%. Approximately 10 and 20% of the dose is absorbed as high- and low-molecular derivatives, respectively. The apparent volume of distribution is approximately 0.44 ml / g. Chondroitin sulfate is metabolized by desulfurization, excreted by the kidneys. The half-life of the substance is 310 minutes.

Indications for use

According to the instructions, Chondrogluxid is prescribed for the treatment of stage I-III osteoarthritis (including the spine and joints).
