Cyclomed is a drug from the group of m-cholinomimetics used in ophthalmology.
Besalol, Bekarbon, Belastezin, Anusol, Atropine Sulfate, Belladonna extract, Bral, Betiol, Midriacil, Buscopan, Gastrotipin, Irifrin, Gastropin, Gastrocepin, Ipravent - analogs of Cyclomed (included in one pharmacological group).
Composition and release form of Cyclomed
Cyclomed is available in the form of a clear solution in a 5 ml plastic dropper bottle.
According to the instructions, 1 ml of Cyclomed contains 0.01 g of cyclopentolate hydrochloride, as well as auxiliary components - 0.0001 g of benzalkonium chloride, disodium edetate, sodium chloride, water for injection.
pharmachologic effect
Cyclopentolate blocks m-cholinergic receptors, thereby contributing to the tension of the ciliary (ciliary) muscle of the eye and at the same time relaxing the muscle that constricts the pupil. Relaxation of the ciliary muscle of the eye leads to the development of accommodation paralysis - cycloplegia. Temporary paralysis of accommodation helps to restore the lost functions of the eye in some eye diseases, and also makes it possible to distinguish accommodation spasm from true myopia during diagnosis.
Cyclomed easily penetrates the conjunctiva of the eye. Cyclopentolate reaches its maximum pharmacological activity 20-30 minutes after a single instillation of Cyclomed. The responses to Cyclomed say that the pupil remains dilated for 7-12 hours after the instillation of the drug, and in some cases, much longer. Residual effects of paresis of accommodation can persist for 24 hours after instillation of drops.
Judging by the reviews, Cyclomed has an antispasmodic effect, reduces the secretion of gastric glands, salivary, sweat, bronchial glands and pancreas. The drug in therapeutic doses has a stimulating effect on the nervous system (manifests itself 30-60 minutes after instillation of the drug), contributing to an increase in intraocular pressure and a decrease in the tone of the vagus nerve, which leads to the development of tachycardia and a slight increase in blood pressure.
Indications for use of Cyclomed
According to the instructions Cyclomed or Cyclomed analogs are used to determine refraction, with ophthalmoscopy; in preoperative preparation (dilation of the pupil before cataract extraction). In addition, Cyclomed is used in the complex treatment of scleritis, episcleritis, iridocyclitis, keratitis, uveitis - inflammatory diseases of the eye (anterior section).
Instructions for use
According to the instructions, Cyclomed is used topically, instilling 1-2 drops of the drug into the conjunctival cavity.
In case of inflammatory processes, one drop of the drug is instilled into the eye three times a day. In some cases, an increased dosage of Cyclomed is allowed - 1 drop every three to four hours. During the instillation of the solution into the conjunctival cavity, the lower lacrimal opening should be pressed to avoid Cyclomed getting into the nasopharynx.
To carry out the procedure for examining the fundus, it is enough to instill one drop of Cyclomed solution one to three times a day.
In order to study refraction in adolescents and children, one drop of the drug is prescribed two to three times a day.
Contraindications for use
- hypersensitivity to any component of the drug;
- glaucoma.
Cyclomed is prescribed with caution during pregnancy, intestinal obstruction, prostatic hyperplasia, elderly patients, as well as children under three years of age.
Side effects of Cyclomed
Judging by the reviews about Cyclomed and Cyclomed's analogues, the consequences of prolonged use of drops can be as follows: the appearance of dizziness, nausea, drowsiness, headache, dry mouth, conjunctival hyperemia, discomfort after instillation of the solution, as well as a temporary decrease in visual acuity.
Consequences of drug overdose
Judging by the reviews to Cyclomed, in case of an overdose of the drug, the following symptoms may appear: dryness of the mucous membranes and skin, neuropsychic disorders (disorientation in space, increased fatigue, speech impairment, emotional disturbances).
When used not for the intended purpose of the drug Cyclomed, the consequences can be irreversible (depression of the respiratory function up to coma or death).
Drug interaction Cyclomed
Metazone and other sympathomimetics enhance the therapeutic effect of the drug. Pilocarpine and other m-cholinomimetics weaken the effect of Cyclomed.
The simultaneous use of Cyclomed and other m-anticholinergics may increase its side effects.
special instructions
The therapeutic effect of drops is weakened in patients with dark pigment of the iris.
When using Cyclomed, elderly patients are advised to carefully monitor the intraocular pressure indicators.
Patients with hypersensitivity to atropine do not cross-allergy to Cyclomed.
For children with persistent or semi-persistent spasm of accommodation for cycloplegia, it is preferable to use a course of instillation of atropine sulfate - an analogue of Cyclomed.
Storage conditions
Store in a dry place protected from sunlight at a temperature of at least 25 ° C.
