Celandine (yellow milkweed, warthog) is a common plant, one of the most vicious weeds. Once settled on the site, he becomes practically indestructible, causing the gardener a lot of trouble. At the same time, celandine has long been used to treat a wide variety of ailments - from skin lesions to pathologies of internal organs. Its leaves and stems contain substances with a pronounced bactericidal, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, diuretic, choleretic and tonic effect.

Alcohol tincture
Tincture of celandine is used in the treatment of neuroses and hypertension. For its preparation, 1 tablespoon of dry grass is poured with 200 ml of vodka or alcohol and insisted for 2 weeks in a dark place, shaking daily. Then the solution is filtered and poured into a dark glass dish. The product keeps well in the refrigerator. Take 5 drops of the tincture, dissolved in 1 tablespoon of water, 2-3 times a day after meals.
Water infusion and decoction
The infusion of celandine is used as an analgesic, antispasmodic, diuretic and choleretic agent for jaundice, urolithiasis and cholelithiasis, gastrointestinal colic. The drug has a tonic effect and activates the body's defenses.
To prepare the infusion, 1 teaspoon of dry grass is poured into 200 ml of boiling water, kept under the lid for 1 hour and filtered, and taken 3 times a day, 1 teaspoon.
The broth is prepared from 1 tablespoon of dry raw materials and 300 ml of water. The mixture is boiled over low heat for 5 minutes, then cooled and filtered. The tool is used to treat acne, lichen, dermatitis and other skin diseases. A thin cotton cloth or cotton pads are impregnated with the broth, which are applied to cleansed skin for 15 minutes before bedtime. As a rule, after 6-7 such procedures, the skin condition improves markedly. Celandine broth is also used for baths - they have a tonic and restorative effect.
Ointment
The drug is made from fresh celandine juice and medical petroleum jelly in a ratio of 1: 4. The mixture can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 years.
With the help of celandine ointment, calluses and warts are removed, it can be used in the treatment of eczema and psoriasis, as well as to eliminate skin pigmentation (for example, freckles). Usually the product is applied pointwise, gently treating problem areas of the skin 2-3 times a day.
Butter
To prepare the preparation, dry herb of celandine is placed in a glass container and poured with oil (almond, olive or sunflower) so that it covers the plant material by 1-2 cm. The mixture is insisted in a cool place for 1 week, shaking daily, then filtered and diluted pure oil in a ratio of 1: 1.
With the help of celandine oil, they get rid of acne, pimples, papillomas, corns, herpetic and allergic rashes. They are treated with boils, lichens, psoriasis and eczema of a microbial nature. There is evidence that celandine oil helps with skin tuberculosis. It is used for the treatment of vaginosis as an impregnation for tampons, as well as for lubricating external hemorrhoids and treating skin areas affected by burns or frostbite. Celandine oil is an effective means of combating nail fungus: the drug is applied at night on the affected areas, previously steamed and cleaned of keratinized tissues.
The juice
Celandine juice is used for pinpoint cauterization of warts, corns and genital warts, as well as rashes formed at the initial stage of development of lupus erythematosus. Fresh juice, diluted with water in a ratio of 1: 2, is instilled 2-3 drops into the nasal passages in case of inflammatory diseases of the nasopharynx.
A small amount of juice, sufficient for a single use, can be obtained by breaking the stem of the plant. For long-term use, fermented celandine juice is harvested. Young plants, dug up along with the roots, are washed, dried and passed through a meat grinder or blender. The resulting mass is squeezed through cheesecloth, the liquid is placed in a glass container with a screw cap. The jar should be in a cool, dark place. After 4-5 days, the juice begins to ferment. At this point, the container is opened to release gas and closed again. During the next week, the procedure is repeated 2-3 times until the complete cessation of fermentation. The finished product is poured into pre-sterilized small vials and carefully sealed. If kept in a cool place, the product can be stored for about 3 years.
Cosmetic masks
Celandine is actively used in cosmetology. The most popular are the following masks:
- toning for healthy skin. Mix together 100 g oatmeal, 1 tablespoon honey and 10 drops of fresh juice. Apply on face for 5-10 minutes, rinse with warm water. Can be used every other day;
- nourishing for normal skin. Apply a mixture of 100 g of cottage cheese, 50 g of carrot juice and 3 drops of celandine juice on the face for 10 minutes. The procedure is carried out 1-2 times a week;
- nourishing for mixed skin. Mix the egg yolk with 1 tablespoon of olive oil, add 5 drops of celandine juice. Apply on face, after 10 minutes, rinse with cool water and treat the skin with a moisturizer;
- for the skin around the eyes. Apply a 3: 1 mixture of low-fat yogurt and celandine oil to the problem area. After 5 minutes, rinse with cool water and use a light nourishing cream;
- for aging skin. Apply a mixture of 2-3 drops of celandine oil and a single portion of a moisturizer to the face, 2 times a day.
To improve the appearance of the hair and strengthen their roots, use a decoction made from dry herb of celandine and crushed burdock rhizomes. The mixture in a 1: 1 ratio is poured into 1 liter of hot water and boiled for 5 minutes. The strained liquid is used as a rinse after washing the hair.
All parts of the plant contain alkaloids that have a harmful effect on the human body. Therefore, the use of celandine requires special care and strict adherence to the dosage. Absolute contraindications are:
- pregnancy and the period of breastfeeding;
- age up to 12 years for internal use and up to 3 years for external use;
- mental disorders;
- epilepsy;
- angina pectoris;
- bronchial asthma;
- severe pathologies of the stomach and liver, as well as exacerbation of chronic diseases of these organs;
- chronic constipation;
- prolonged dysbiosis;
- individual intolerance.
Side effects may occur if taken internally. Constipation, diarrhea, nausea, weakness, dizziness, hypotension, insomnia, and increased anxiety are most common. If fresh juice gets on healthy skin during external use, it is fraught with chemical burns or an allergic reaction.
The use of celandine preparations inside is incompatible with sulfonamides, drugs that reduce the concentration of sugar in the blood, as well as drugs containing morphine or made on the basis of digitalis (foxglove).
Ingestion of undiluted juice of celandine is strictly prohibited. Any celandine preparations cannot be used to treat open wounds: this can provoke severe inflammation. Treatment with celandine should be agreed with your doctor.
