Prostatilen is a drug of animal origin for the treatment of diseases of the prostate gland.

Release form and composition

Dosage forms of Prostatilen:

• Lyophilisate for preparation of a solution for intramuscular administration: powder or porous mass of white or yellowish-white color (in colorless glass ampoules of 5 mg, in a carton pack 5 ampoules or 1-2 blisters containing 5 ampoules);
• Rectal suppositories: torpedo-shaped, from white to yellow (marbling of color is possible); the cut may contain marbling and a funnel-shaped depression or a rod (in blister strip packs of 5 pcs., in a cardboard box 1-2 packs).

Active substance: prostate extract (for the lyophilisate - in terms of water-soluble peptides, for suppositories - the substance of the active substance with the addition of glycine):

• 1 ampoule with lyophilisate - 5 mg;
• 1 suppository - 30 or 50 mg.

Lyophilisate excipient: glycine.

Additional components of suppositories: dimethyl sulfoxide, macrogol 1500.

Pharmacological properties

Prostatilen as an active substance contains prostate extract extracted from the tissues of the prostate gland of young bulls, with the addition of glycine and trace elements zinc. The extract contains a large number of peptides - special complexes of amino acids that are natural bioregulators of the body. They affect exactly those tissues or organs from which they were obtained.

Thus, Prostatilen has an organotropic effect on the prostate gland: it helps to reduce leukocyte infiltration, stagnation of secretions and edema of the prostate gland, improves the processes of microcirculation and platelet-vascular hemostasis, and has a beneficial effect on the functional activity of spermatozoa.

Glycine, which is also contained in the preparation, takes an active part in the process of cell renewal and their oxygenation, participates in the synthesis of immunoglobulins, is part of many hormones, and plays an important role in the functioning of the immune system. Zinc trace elements are necessary for the maturation of specific immune cells, help preserve the integrity of the sperm, prevent the development of various processes in the prostate gland, both benign and malignant.

Prostatilen also has an anti-inflammatory effect, corrects the production of antibodies and stimulates the antimicrobial activity of neutrophils, affects the tone of the bladder muscles (including the tone of the detrusor), stimulates the activity of the humoral link of the immune system and some factors of the body's resistance.

According to clinical studies, Prostatilen:

• normalizes microcirculation and venous outflow in the prostate gland;
• reduces the number of leukocytes in the secretion of the prostate gland;
• reduces pain syndrome;
• restores the usual frequency of urination (after 2-4 days from the start of treatment);
• enhances sex drive, improves the quality of erection and orgasm;
• improves ejaculate performance (increases the number and mobility of sperm).

Instructions for use of Prostatilen: method and dosage

Lyophilisate for the preparation of a solution for intramuscular administration

A solution prepared from a lyophilisate (the contents of 1 ampoule are dissolved with 1-2 ml of a 0.9% sodium chloride solution, a 0.25-0.5% novocaine solution or injection water) is administered intramuscularly at a dose of 5-10 mg once a day for 5 -10 days. If necessary, after a break (1-6 months), repeat the course of treatment. If one or more injections are missed, treatment should not be discontinued; it is necessary to increase the course of therapy by the number of missed doses (days).

Rectal suppositories

Suppositories Prostatilen are injected rectally - deep into the anus after a bowel movement or a cleansing enema, previously moistened with a little water, at a dose of 30 mg - 1 pc. 1 or 2 times a day, at a dose of 50 mg - 1 pc. 1 time per day, morning or evening. After administration for at least 30-40 minutes, the patient should remain in the supine position. The course of treatment is determined individually, with chronic prostatitis it lasts at least 10 days, with benign prostatic hyperplasia - at least 15 days.

Side effects

According to the instructions, Prostatilen is usually well tolerated. In rare cases, allergic reactions occur.

Overdose

Overdose cases have not been reported to date.

If allergic reactions develop, an antihistamine should be prescribed or treatment discontinued.

In the form of suppositories, Prostatilen is recommended for use in the following cases:

1. The need to relieve pain as quickly as possible: the suppositories contain Dimexide - it promotes faster absorption of prostate extract and has a pronounced anti-inflammatory effect. In addition, suppositories act faster because the active substance is absorbed in the immediate vicinity of the prostate gland.
2. No history of rectal diseases (cracks, hemorrhoids, epithelial coccygeal passages, etc.): Dimexide, which is part of the suppositories, has a moderately irritating effect, therefore it can cause such side reactions as itching and burning in the anus, loosening of the stool.

In the form of injection Prostatilen is recommended in the following cases:

1. Presence of rectal diseases: with intramuscular (i / m) administration of the drug, the irritating effect of Dimexide contained in suppositories can be avoided.
2. Older age: in elderly patients, the systemic effect is more important. When administered intramuscularly, Prostatilen acts on the body as a whole, has anti-inflammatory (relieves edema, improves microcirculation), regenerative (restores the normal structure of the damaged organ) and immunomodulatory effect (increases the number of T and B cells, reduces IgA concentration).
3. The postoperative period after surgery on the pelvic organs, including the prostate gland.
