Oral liquid Prelax
Oral liquid Prelax

Prelax is a prebiotic, biologically active food supplement, has a mild laxative effect, helping to improve the motor-evacuation function of the intestine.

Release form and composition

Dosage form - oral liquid (10 or 20 g in sachets; 220 or 400 g in vials).

The active ingredient of Prelax is the lactulose concentrate "Lactusan"

Excipients: food additives and flavorings.

Pharmacological properties

The active substance in the composition of Prelax is lactulose, an isomer of lactose milk sugar, which is a crystalline substance that is readily soluble in water, which is 2 times less sweet than sucrose.

Prelax is a biologically active food supplement (BAA), a prebiotic that, after entering the body, is able to reach the large intestine unchanged, which stimulates the growth and vital activity of bacteria related to the protective intestinal microflora. The product not only restores the latter, but also normalizes the intestinal chyme, and also with an efficiency of 87% eliminates the causes of chronic constipation, exerting a long-term and sustainable therapeutic effect on it.

Prelax is a mild, rapid-acting laxative and does not have a destructive irritant effect on the intestinal epithelial layer. Therefore, when using it, lazy colon syndrome does not develop and addiction does not occur, which is confirmed by clinical studies. According to the results of the latter, Prelax can be taken for 8 years without reducing the therapeutic effect. The drug retains water in the intestinal lumen, changing the osmotic pressure. However, it does not absorb it, which could lead to swelling and stretching of the intestinal walls due to their increase in volume.

Reception of Prelax does not lead to colonization of the intestine with exogenous microorganisms, but activates the activity and reproduction of its own beneficial bacteria.

Lactulose is not digested in the upper gastrointestinal tract (GIT), but in the colon it is hydrolyzed with the participation of bifidobacteria, forming organic acids (butyric, acetic, lactic, propionic) that increase the osmotic pressure in the intestinal lumen. This stimulates the transport of intestinal contents through the large intestine. Lactulose reduces the time of contact of infectious agents and their metabolites with the mucous membrane of the large intestine, which helps to eliminate constipation and facilitates the elimination of pathogens and their toxins from the body. Also, the drug does not reduce the absorption of vitamins.

Indications for use

  • Stimulation of intestinal motility with constipation;
  • Violation of the intestinal microflora;
  • Liver failure;
  • Medical softening of the stool;
  • Preparing the patient for colonoscopy, irrigoscopy and other studies.

Contraindications

  • Galactosemia;
  • Age under 12;
  • Intolerance to the components of the drug.

Instructions for the use of Prelax: method and dosage

Prelax is taken orally.

The doctor sets the dosage regimen and the duration of the course of treatment individually, depending on the symptoms of the disease.

With a single appointment of a daily dose, it is preferable to take the agent at the same time, for example, once a day in the morning during breakfast, adding 125–250 ml of tea, coffee, water, milk, fruit juice, or drinking it. The dose taken should not be kept in the mouth, but swallowed immediately.

When using laxatives, a sufficient amount of liquid is required - at least 1.5–2 l / day (6–8 glasses).

Unless otherwise prescribed by the doctor, the following dosage is recommended, depending on the indication:

  • constipation (Prelax is preferable to take 1 time per day during breakfast): adolescents over 14 years old and adults - the first 3 days from 15 to 45 ml per day, then in a maintenance dose of 10–25 ml; children and adolescents from 7 to 14 years old - initial dose of 15 ml, maintenance dose - 10 ml; children from 1 to 6 years old - initial and maintenance doses of 5-10 ml; children under 1 year old - initial and maintenance doses of 5 ml;
  • treatment of hepatic encephalopathy (coma / precoma): from 30 to 50 ml 2-3 times a day, the maximum daily dose is 190 ml;
  • prevention of the development of hepatic coma in patients with severe liver damage: 25 ml 3 times a day;
  • salmonellosis: 15 ml 3 times a day for a course of 10-12 days, after a week's break the course is repeated; if necessary, after a week's break, it is allowed to carry out the 3rd course at a dose of 30 ml 3 times a day.

The effectiveness of Prelax is increased by its simultaneous reception with water or with fermented milk products (yogurt, kefir, etc.).

When the first signs of diarrhea appear, the dose is reduced by 15 ml (1 tbsp. Spoon), and with low efficiency, it is increased by 15 ml (1 tbsp. Spoon).

Reviews about Prelax

Patients leave mostly positive reviews about Prelax. It helps many people with constipation the first time, but the dose should be selected individually, since exceeding the required dosage can cause bloating. The drug softens the stool well, it is also recommended for pain in the intestines associated with constipation with dyskinesia of the biliary tract. The use of dietary supplements does not lead to a deterioration in well-being, but some users note that it is better to drink it with pure drinking water or use it together with fermented milk products.

The big advantage of the laxative is that Prelax can be taken during pregnancy and in babies from birth. Buyers note its mild action and quick treatment results.

Occasionally, there are reviews that mention the ineffectiveness of the drug even when used in high doses.
