Aqua Maris Plus is a decongestant drug, has a local anti-inflammatory and regenerating effect, moisturizes the nasal mucosa.

Release form and composition

The drug is available in the form of a nasal spray: a clear, colorless and odorless solution (30 ml each in dark glass vials, equipped with a spray bottle and a protective cap, in a cardboard box 1 bottle and instructions for use of Aqua Marisa Plus)

100 g of spray contains:

• active substance: water of the Adriatic Sea - 25 g;
• auxiliary components: dexpanthenol 75L [an aqueous solution containing at least 75% (R) -panthenol, stabilized with about 1% D-pantolactone], purified water.

In 1 ml of solution, the content of ions of trace elements is:

• sodium (Na ⁺): not less than 1.9 mg;
• chlorides (Cl ^-): not less than 4.1 mg;
• magnesium (Mg ²⁺): not less than 0.25 mg;
• calcium (Ca ²⁺): not less than 0.06 mg;
• sulfates (SO ₄ ²⁻): not less than 0.45 mg;
• bicarbonates (HCO ₃ ^-): not less than 0.025 mg.

Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics

Aqua Maris Plus is a sterile isotonic solution containing seawater and dexpanthenol, which is a derivative of pantothenic acid (vitamin B ₅).

Water-soluble vitamin B ₅ is a part of coenzyme A. Dexpanthenol helps to normalize cellular metabolism, potentiates the regeneration of the mucous membrane, has a weak anti-inflammatory and regenerating effect.

Injection of an isotonic solution into the nasal cavity moisturizes the mucous membrane, promotes liquefaction of mucus, stimulates regeneration and has a trophic effect on the cells of the nasal mucosa. Aqua Maris Plus normalizes mucus production in the goblet cells of the nasal membrane.

The properties of the microelements that make up the drug cause an improvement in the function of the ciliated epithelium, increasing the resistance of the mucous membrane and paranasal sinuses to the introduction of pathogenic viruses and bacteria.

Aqua Maris Plus does not contain preservatives.

Indications for use

• treatment and prevention of atrophic and subatrophic rhinitis;
• the need to cleanse and moisturize the nasal mucosa in inflammatory diseases of the nasal cavity, nasal sinuses and nasopharynx;
• vasomotor and allergic rhinitis - as part of complex therapy, especially with hypersensitivity to other drugs or a predisposition to it, including during pregnancy and lactation;
• prevention of infections of the nasal cavity in the autumn-winter period;
• prevention of violations of the physiological characteristics of the nasal mucosa associated with living in regions with a harsh climate or changing microclimatic conditions, including dryness of the nasal mucosa, caused by prolonged stay in rooms with air-conditioned air or central heating;
• constant exposure to harmful substances on the mucous membrane of the upper respiratory tract, including smoking, working with vehicles or in hot and dusty workshops;
• prevention of age-related atrophic changes in the nasal mucosa in the elderly.

Contraindications

It is contraindicated to use Aqua Maris Plus for persons with hypersensitivity to the components of the drug, as well as for children under the age of 1 year.

Aqua Maris Plus, instructions for use: method and dosage

Spray Aqua Maris Plus is used intranasally by spraying into each nasal passage.

Recommended dosage:

• treatment: children aged 1 to 7 years - 4 times a day, 2 injections, from 7 to 16 years old - 4–6 times a day, 2 injections, persons over 16 years old - 4–8 times a day, 2–3 spraying. The duration of the course of treatment can be from 14 to 28 days, after 30 days it is recommended to repeat it;
• prevention: children aged 1 to 7 years - 1–3 times a day, 1–2 injections, from 7 to 16 years old - 2–4 times a day, 2 injections, persons over 16 years old - 3–6 times a day 2-3 sprays each.

Side effects
