Enterofuril in the form of a suspension
Enterofuril in the form of a suspension

Enterofuril is a drug from the group of broad-spectrum antimicrobial drugs. The drug has no systemic effect, it is prescribed for the treatment of infectious diarrhea. The active ingredient is nifuroxazide, a 5-nitrofuran derivative. Enterofuril has a bactericidal, bacteriostatic effect, is active against many causative agents of gastrointestinal infections. The antimicrobial effect of the drug is dose-dependent, while low, medium doses have a bacteriostatic effect, high - bactericidal.

The bacteriostatic effect of Enterofuril is associated with the inhibition of dehydrogenase activity, while the biosynthesis of the necessary compounds in the bacterial cell is disrupted. As a result, the respiratory chain is blocked, the tricarboxylic acid cycle is inhibited, and the bacterial cell loses its ability to multiply.

The bactericidal effect of Enterofuril is due to the ability of high dosages of the drug to destructively affect the membrane of bacterial cells. As a result of the violation of the integrity of the cell membrane, the death of the bacterium occurs.

Enterofuril is also able to inhibit the production of exotoxins by pathogenic bacteria, as a result of which irritation of the cells of the intestinal epithelium decreases and the production of fluid into the lumen of the gastrointestinal tract decreases.

By increasing the phagocytic activity Enterofuril activates the immune system.

The drug does not have a depressing effect on non-pathogenic flora, and therefore dysbiosis does not occur during its use.

After oral administration, Enterofuril is not absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract, there is no systemic effect. A high concentration of the drug is created in the intestine. Enterofuril is excreted in the feces.

Due to the high clinical effectiveness, reviews of Enterofuril are positive. In addition to a good effect in bacterial infections of the gastrointestinal tract, the drug also reduces the risk of bacterial superinfection in viral diarrhea, therefore, with this pathology, it is also advisable to prescribe Enterofuril.
