Proper storage of food allows you to preserve all the taste and biological characteristics of food, protects them from spoilage and protects a person from poisoning or intestinal infection.
As a rule, food deteriorates due to the influence of microorganisms on it, the vital activity of which depends on the quality of the external environment - its temperature, humidity, and many other factors. The terms and conditions of food storage depend on the way food is processed and its type - violation of these rules threatens destruction. Perishable products include fish, meat, cottage cheese, products, semi-finished products, sausages, baked goods.
So, food storage. How to do it right?
It is better to store stocks of meat and fish in the freezer, unwashed, cut into portions and placed in plastic bags. You can defrost meat only once - otherwise it will become tough, dry and tasteless. Fish, on the other hand, can undergo several frosts without losing its taste. If you have brought fish home and are going to cook it soon, put it in a container of ice for a while.
Vegetables and fruits should not be stored next to cold meats and cheese. Grapes do not tolerate being close to fish. Fruit from the tropics - bananas, kiwi, mango, pineapple are not kept in the refrigerator at all - they must be eaten within a few hours after purchase. Delicate vegetables (tomatoes) and lettuce should be stored in breathable containers. You should not keep canned food in the refrigerator for a long time - in order for their contents to remain fresh, it must be transferred to another, preferably glass, dish.
Baked goods are stored in a clean, dry bread bin. If you need bread to stay fresh for 2-3 days, wrap it in a bag and place it on the top shelf of the refrigerator. Cereals should be kept in glass containers with tight-fitting lids in a cool dark place. Ready-to-eat fish, sausages, second courses should not be stored in the refrigerator for more than 3-4 days.
It is best to store food in plastic, enamel or aluminum trays or plastic bags. Buy fresh food, adhere to the terms and rules for their storage - and the food will reward you with its taste and nutritional qualities.
