Dr. Hauser's diet
The diet was developed by American physician Benjamin Gaylord Hauser over 100 years ago. Its action is based on a sharp decrease in the daily caloric content of the diet by limiting the proportion of foods containing starch and fast carbohydrates, as well as by small portions.
According to Dr. Hauser, the daily calorie content should not exceed 1000 kcal. The diet consists of protein and plant products, a distinctive feature of the diet is the use of a special cleansing drink during the day.
The diet can be used as a weight loss system, in which case it lasts one to two weeks. As an unloading for cleansing the body, it is enough to use it for one to two days.
Dr. Hauser's Cleansing Drink Recipe:
- 1 tbsp. l. chopped parsley;
- 100 g finely chopped spinach;
- 230 g finely chopped celery (root and leaves);
- 200 g grated carrots;
- 1 tbsp. l. tomato juice;
- 1 tsp honey;
- 1 tsp salt.
Place parsley, spinach, celery and carrots in a saucepan, pour 1 liter of water, cover and bring to a boil. Then the heat is reduced and boiled for 25 minutes. Add tomato juice, salt and honey, mix everything and keep it on low heat for several minutes. This portion of the drink is for 1 day.
Dr. Hauser's Diet Rules:
- when forming the menu, keep counting calories and not exceed the daily calorie content of 1000 kcal;
- instead of snacks, drink a cleansing drink;
- eat very slowly, without distraction, chewing food thoroughly;
- four meals a day - at the same time at regular intervals. The last meal is no later than three hours before bedtime.
In addition to the diet, Gaylord Hauser recommended taking brewer's yeast, sprouted wheat, and natural yogurt, as he claims they rejuvenate the body, improve health and prolong life.

Disadvantages and contraindications of Dr. Hauser's diet
The energy value of 1000 kcal per day is too low (the World Health Organization considers the lower safe limit of 1500 kcal per day), such a diet can cause deterioration of health - headaches, insomnia, increased fatigue. Another common consequence of such a drastic calorie restriction is the rapid return of weight after the diet is completed.
The diet is not recommended for diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. People with any chronic pathology need to consult a doctor before starting a diet.
