Flucostat is an antifungal drug derived from triazole.
The drug is widely used to treat lesions caused by yeast and yeast-like fungi.
Flucostat is available in the form of a solution for intravenous administration and capsules.
1 ml of drug solution contains 2 mg of fluconazole and excipients (sodium chloride, water for injection).
1 capsule of Flucostat contains 50 or 150 mg of fluconazole and excipients (corn starch, lactose, silicon dioxide, sodium sulfate, magnesium stearate).
Pharmacological action of Flucostat
According to the instructions, the active substance of Flucostat selectively affects specific pathogens of a fungal nature - cytochromes P-450, thereby disrupting the synthesis of sterols, which are the "building material" for the cell membranes of the fungus. The lack of sterols increases the permeability of the membrane and, ultimately, destroys it, which leads to the death of the pathogen. The inhibitory effect of Flucostat and its analogs also affects the enzymes of the human body, however, the use of Flucostat is not capable of having a significant negative effect.
After intravenous administration, fluconazole penetrates well into body fluids and tissues, while the concentration of the active substance in the blood plasma is directly proportional to the dose of the drug. In patients with meningitis of fungal etymology, the concentration of fluconazole in the cerebrospinal fluid is 80% of the content of the active substance in the plasma.
Excretion of fluconazole is carried out mainly by the kidneys, and about 80% - unchanged.
Indications for the use of Flucostat
Taking Flucostat according to the instructions is advisable in the presence of fungal infections of the body of varying severity, including primary or secondary immunodeficiency states. The solution for intravenous administration is used to treat patients suffering from diseases caused by cryptococci (infections of the skin, lungs, tissues, including meningitis) and fungi of the genus Candida (candidiasis of the mucous membranes, candidemia, generalized candidiasis). Flucostat solution is an effective prophylactic agent for patients receiving radiation and cytostatic therapy, as well as for the prevention of the reappearance of cryptococcosis in people with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome.
Flucostat capsules for oral administration can be prescribed for the treatment of diseases caused by Candida fungi, cryptococci, as well as other microorganisms that are sensitive to fluconazole. According to reviews, Flucostat capsules are widely used for the treatment of candidiasis of the mucous membranes, onychomycosis, cryptococcosis, skin mycosis, pityriasis versicolor. Contraindications

Drug interactions
The simultaneous use of Flucostat and analogues of the drug with astemizole and terfenadine is prohibited. In combination with the above substances, fluconazole can change the effectiveness of coumarin anticoagulants.
