Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics

Lincomycin is an antibiotic produced by Streptomyces lincolniensis or other related actinomycetes. It acts bacteriostatically, suppressing protein synthesis in the bacterial cell due to reversible binding to the ribosomal 50S subunit and disrupting the formation of peptide bonds.

The drug is active against the following microorganisms: Streptococcus spp. (including Streptococcus pneumoniae), Bacillus anthracis, Staphylococcus spp., Haemophilus influenzae, Bacteroides spp., Clostridium tetany and Clostridium perfringens, Mycoplasma spp., Corynebacterium diphtheriae.

Strains of Staphylococcus spp. Resistant to tetracyclines, cephalosporins, penicillin, streptomycin, chloramphenicol are susceptible to lincomycin. Therefore, Lincomycin-AKOS can be considered as a reserve drug (only 30% of Staphylococcus spp. That are resistant to erythromycin have cross-resistance to lincomycin).

The drug has no effect on gram-negative strains of bacteria, Enterococcus spp. (including Enterococcus faecalis), protozoa, viruses and fungi; lincomycin is inferior in activity to erythromycin against Corynebacterium spp., Neisseria spp. and spore-forming anaerobes.

The optimal effect of Lincomycin-AKOS is manifested in an alkaline medium (from pH 8 to pH 8.5).

Lincomycin resistance develops slowly (according to the penicillin type). In large doses, the drug has a bactericidal effect.

Pharmacokinetics

Data on the pharmacokinetics of lincomycin when applied topically are not provided.
