Fluoride varnish is a drug for the prevention of dental caries.
Composition and form of release of Fluoride varnish
A solution for topical application is produced, which is a viscous dark brown liquid with the smell of needles. The solution contains sodium chloride, ethyl alcohol, fluorine, shellac, fir balsam and chloroform.
In vials of 25 g.
pharmachologic effect
According to the instructions, Fluorolac is intended for prophylactic purposes against dental caries. The solution is retained on the surface of the teeth in the form of a film, due to which there is a long-term saturation of the tooth enamel with fluoride.
According to reviews, Fluorolac also has an antimicrobial effect and reduces, or even completely removes, pain sensitivity of hard tooth tissues.
Indications for use of Fluoride varnish
According to the instructions, Fluorolac is used in the following cases:
- prevention of dental caries in children from the age of six and adolescents, mainly living in areas with a low fluoride content in drinking water.
- increased sensitivity of the teeth;
- traumatic damage to tooth enamel;
- increased abrasion of tooth enamel;
Coating with Fluorolac is used to obtain antimicrobial and analgesic effects, as well as after processing teeth for artificial crowns.
Method of application of Fluoride varnish and dosage regimen
Before covering with Fluoride varnish, the surface of the teeth should be wiped with a cotton swab, and then the preparation should be applied with a brush to the tooth enamel. The procedure starts from the lower jaw, as this helps to avoid saliva accumulation.
Until the varnish has completely dried, the patient must sit with his mouth open (about five minutes). Important: it is necessary to ensure that the varnish does not get on the gums, as this can cause burns. After applying the drug, it is not recommended to brush your teeth throughout the day, and you need to eat only liquid food.
Doctors recommend a 3-fold coating with Fluoride varnish with an interval of two days, and after six months you can repeat the procedure.
The color of the teeth does not change after applying the drug. During the procedure, the surface layer of the enamel of milk teeth is strengthened. A feature of the application of Fluoride varnish according to reviews is the complete isolation of teeth from saliva immediately at the time of application. That is why not all children have the opportunity to carry out this procedure effectively. Isolation from saliva should be done with cotton swabs, which should be placed near the teeth, thus moving the tongue and cheeks.
Contraindications
The drug is contraindicated in epidemic fluorosis and in case of hypersensitivity to one or more of its components.
Side effects
According to reviews, Fluorolac is well tolerated by patients. Allergic reactions are sometimes possible.
