Pharmacodynamics

Psoriaten is a mono-component homeopathic preparation containing a matrix tincture of Mahonia aquifolium as an active medicinal substance, used for psoriasis.

Alkaloids included in the matrix tincture, especially berberine, have anti-inflammatory efficacy (by inhibiting the activity of 5-lipoxygenase and cyclooxygenase enzymes, disrupting the synthesis of leukotrienes, arachidonic acid, thromboxane, prostaglandins and free radical binding) and antiproliferative action (by inhibiting DNA, RNA, as well as indirect influence on the course of biochemical processes necessary for cell division and synthesis of inflammatory mediators). Berberine is also an antagonist of calmodulin, an essential element in the regulation of intracellular calcium metabolism, and plays a significant role in the processes of cell reproduction and growth.
