Pharmacological action Protopic
In the instructions to Protopic, it is noted that this drug belongs to anti-inflammatory drugs that are used only for external use. The advantage of this drug is that its main component does not affect collagen synthesis and does not cause atrophy of the skin.
Indications for use of Protopic
Most often, Protopic and Protopic analogs are prescribed to those patients who have atopic dermatitis (severe and moderate). This is also done in cases where other drugs do not help patients or there are no adverse reactions to the components of Protopic. Children aged 2-16 years are prescribed only 0.03% Protopic. Adults and children over 16 years old can use ointment 0.1% and 0.03%.
Contraindications
Protopic ointment is contraindicated:
- With lamellar ichthyosis.
- In the responses to Protopik, it is said that the ointment should not be used during pregnancy and lactation.
- Do not use if the patient has Netherton's syndrome or other genetic skin diseases.
- If the skin does not react well to the ointment.
- It is forbidden to apply to children aged 2-16 years 0.1% Protopic ointment.
- It is strictly forbidden to apply to children under 2 years of age.
- If patients have hypersensitivity to the main and auxiliary components of the drug.
Patients with liver failure, very large lesions of the skin, children, as well as those patients who have been using this drug for a rather long time, need additional consultation.
Method of application of Protopic and dosage regimen
The instructions for Protopic say that this ointment is applied to adults and children in a thin layer on the affected areas of the skin (including the neck, face, skin folds). Avoid getting the ointment on the mucous membranes, as well as under the sealed dressings used on various parts of the body.
Children aged 2 to 16 years should start treatment with the use of Protopic 0.03% up to 2 times a day. The general course of treatment is maximum 3 weeks. After that, the ointment is applied once a day until the skin is completely cleansed.
For adults and children over 16 years of age, the course of treatment begins with the application of 0.1% of the product up to 2 times a day. In case of rapid improvement, you can use 0.03% drug or reduce the dosage.
Elderly people do not need additional advice regarding the dosage of Protopic.
Usually, the improvement in patients is noticeable after 7 days of therapy. If there is no improvement after 14 days of using the drug, then you should consult a specialist.
Overdose
In the responses to Protopik, it was recorded that to date, no cases of overdose have been observed.
If the drug is ingested, do not induce vomiting or gastric lavage. It is necessary to seek help from a doctor who will monitor the general condition of the body.
Interaction with other medicinal products
The instructions for Protopic indicate that the drug is not metabolized in the skin.
The simultaneous application of Protopic with drugs such as ketoconazole, erythromycin, diltiazem, itraconazole is not excluded if the patient has a severe disease of large areas of the skin or erythroderma is recorded.
Until now, there have been no medical studies that would confirm the effect of the ointment on the vaccination process. However, despite this, when using Protopic, vaccination may become less effective. To avoid such results, it is carried out before applying the ointment or 2 weeks after using it. If the patient is injected with a live attenuated vaccine, then this process should begin 28 days after the last day of using Protopic. In the event that this interval cannot be met, another vaccine must be used.
Numerous experiments confirm that children from 2 to 11 years old can apply Protopic to the skin and simultaneously administer the conjugate vaccine.
The reaction of the human body to the simultaneous use of Protopic with other ointments intended for external use, as well as immunosuppressants, is not known.
Side effects of Protopic
In the reviews to Protopik, it was noted that most often after using this remedy, there may be a burning sensation of the skin, itching, redness, rash and pain, as well as swelling in a specific place of application of the drug. They pass during the first week of treatment and are mild.
In the responses to Protopik, it is said that when the ointment is applied to the skin and the simultaneous use of alcohol in increased amounts, skin irritation can be provoked.
Using the ointment can provoke the occurrence of acne (which is extremely rare), folliculitis and herpes infection. As for the nervous system, hyperesthesia and paresthesia often occur.
For all the time after the appearance of Protopic and Protopic analogues in medical practice, only a few cases were noted when patients developed skin cancer, rosacea and other infections of the skin.
