Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics

Thermopsis syrup with licorice is a combined expectorant drug. The action of the syrup is due to the following properties of its active ingredients:

  • thermopsis herb: the mechanism of the expectorant action of thermopsis extract is associated with the content of such alkaloids as cytisine, methylcytisine, thermopsin, thermopsidin, pachycarpin and anagirin in it. Exerting an exciting effect on the respiratory center, they reflexively increase the secretion of the bronchial glands, and contributes to the dilution and separation of phlegm. In high doses, the extract is active against the emetic centers, exerting a moderate irritating effect on the receptors of the gastric mucosa;
  • licorice extract: the expectorant effect of licorice extract is primarily due to the presence of glycyrrhizic acid, which enhances the secretory function of the mucous membranes of the upper respiratory tract;
  • potassium bromide: provides a decrease in the excitability of the central nervous system;
  • ammonium chloride: has an expectorant and diuretic effect.
