Kanizone is a synthetic antifungal agent from the group of imidazole derivatives.

Release form and composition

• Solution 1% for external use (20 ml in polyethylene bottles, 1 bottle in a cardboard box);
• Cream 1% for external use (20 g each in aluminum tubes, 1 tube in a cardboard box);
• Vaginal tablets (6 pcs. In a contoured, cell-free package, 1 package with an applicator in a box).

Each pack also contains instructions for the use of Kanizon.

The active substance is clotrimazole:

• 1 ml of solution - 10 mg;
• 1 g of cream - 10 mg;
• 1 tablet - 100 mg.

Excipients:

• Solution: propylene glycol, PEG 400, ethanol;
• Cream: white soft paraffin, light liquid paraffin, cetomacrogol 1000, benzyl alcohol, cetostearyl alcohol, EDTA disodium salt, secondary sodium phosphate dodecahydrate, chlorocresol, sodium phosphate monosubstituted dihydrate, propylene glycol, purified water;
• Vaginal tablets: gelatin, corn starch, colloidal silicon dioxide, magnesium stearate, lactose, sodium benzoate, microcrystalline cellulose, water.

Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics

Clotrimazole is an antifungal agent of the group of imidazole derivatives for topical use. It has a wide spectrum of therapeutic antimycotic action (in small concentrations - fungistatic, and in large concentrations - fungicidal), which is due to the violation of the synthesis of ergosterol, which is an integral part of the cell membrane of fungi.

Shows activity against dermatophytes, molds, fungi of the genus Candida, Malassezia furfur. Also, the substance is active against Streptococcus spp., Corynebacterium minutissimum, Trichomonas vaginalis, Staphylococcus spp.

Pharmacokinetics

• Local application: clotrimazole is absorbed into the blood in a small amount;
• External use: the substance penetrates well into different layers of the skin, where it reaches therapeutic concentrations;
• Intravaginal administration: a minimum amount of clotrimazole is absorbed through the vaginal mucosa into the systemic circulation, it has only a local effect.

Indications for use

For mortar and cream:

• Fungal lesions of the skin (including hairy parts of the body) and mucous membranes caused by microorganisms sensitive to clotrimazole, including yeast-like and mold fungi, dermatophytes;
• Mycotic lesions of the ears;
• Mycoses complicated by secondary pyoderma;
• Erythrasma;
• Pityriasis versicolor.

For vaginal tablets:

• Colpitis;
• Vulvovaginal candidiasis;
• Candidal balanitis;
• Other superinfections (including mixed) caused by microorganisms sensitive to clotrimazole;
• Sanitation of the vagina in preparation for childbirth.

Contraindications

All dosage forms of Kanizon are contraindicated in case of hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.

Vaginal tablets are also not used in the first trimester of pregnancy.

Tablets in the II and III trimesters of pregnancy, and the cream and solution in any period of pregnancy can only be used as directed by a doctor, if the expected benefit outweighs the possible risks.

Nursing mothers are forbidden to apply Canison solution and cream to the mammary glands.

Kanizon, instructions for use: method and dosage

Cream and solution for external use

In the form of a solution and cream, Kanizon is applied externally.

The agent is applied in a thin layer to the affected areas of the skin and mucous membranes from 2 to 4 times a day. In case of fungal diseases of the skin of the feet, it is necessary to first wash the feet with warm water and soap and wipe thoroughly, especially between the toes.

The duration of therapy is determined individually. The treatment of pityriasis versicolor usually takes 1-3 weeks, for erythrasma therapy - 2-4 weeks. In case of fungal diseases of the skin of the legs after the disappearance of clinical signs of the disease, it is recommended to continue using the drug for another 14 days.

In the form of a solution, Kanizon is also used for lesions of the oral mucosa: 10-20 drops (0.5-1 ml) of the solution are applied to the mucous membrane 3-4 times a day using a cotton swab or cotton swab. Improvement of the condition, as a rule, is noted on the 3-5th day of therapy, however, treatment should be continued until the clinical manifestations of the disease are completely eliminated.

Vaginal pills

In this dosage form, Kanizon is used intravaginally.

The drug is injected deep into the vagina once a day, preferably in the evening. The duration of treatment is 6 days. If necessary, repeat the course.

Application of tablets with the applicator:

• Remove the tablet from the package;
• Attach to the applicator;
• Insert the applicator deep into the vagina;
• Press the piston all the way down;
• Remain lying down while waiting for the tablet to dissolve.

After use, the applicator must be thoroughly rinsed with warm water (not boiling water!).

With candidiasis vulvitis and candidal balanitis, it is recommended to apply externally, to the affected areas, Kanizon cream (2-3 times a day for 6-12 days) simultaneously with the tablets.

Side effects

Canison is well tolerated in most cases. In rare cases, local allergic reactions occur, manifested by burning, redness, itching and tingling at the site of application of the drug.

When treating with vaginal tablets, it is also possible: increased vaginal secretion, pain in the lower abdomen, swelling of the mucous membrane, irritation of the mucous membrane after intercourse.

Overdose

The use of Kanizon in high doses does not cause any conditions and reactions that pose a danger to life.

In the case of unintended intake of high doses of clotrimazole inside, the main symptoms of an overdose are gastralgia, anorexia, vomiting, nausea, impaired hepatic function; rarely - allergic skin reactions, pollakiuria, drowsiness, hallucinations.

Therapy: intake of activated carbon, symptomatic treatment. There is no specific antidote.

special instructions

Canizon tablets are not allowed to be taken orally. Treatment with vaginal tablets is recommended between menstrual cycles.

To avoid reinfection, treatment should be given to both sexual partners at the same time.

The cream and solution are not recommended to be applied to the skin in the eye area.

If, 4 weeks after the start of the application of the solution / cream, there is no improvement in the clinical condition, it is necessary to consult a doctor to clarify the diagnosis.

Application during pregnancy and lactation

Vaginal tablets in the first trimester of pregnancy are contraindicated.

Tablets for oral administration in the II-III trimesters of pregnancy, as well as cream and solution in any period of pregnancy, can be used only under medical supervision in cases where the expected benefit outweighs the possible risks.

It is forbidden to apply the drug to the mammary glands of nursing mothers.

Drug interactions

Canizone in the form of vaginal tablets reduces the effect of polyene antifungal antibiotics (nystatin, amphotericin, natamycin, etc.).

With local application of the drug, negative interactions with other drugs are not known.
