Kanizon plus is an antibacterial, antifungal and anti-inflammatory drug of local action.

Release form and composition

Dosage form Kanizon plus - cream for external use: homogeneous, without foreign particles, white or almost white (15 g in a tube, 1 tube in a cardboard box).

Composition of 1 g of cream:

  • active substances: betamethasone dipropionate - 0.64 mg, gentamicin sulfate, equivalent to gentamicin - 1 mg, clotrimazole - 10 mg;
  • auxiliary components: paraffin, cetostearyl alcohol, cetomacrogol 1000, liquid paraffin, butylhydroxytoluene, sodium hydrogen phosphate, chlorocresol, disodium edetate, propylene glycol, butylhydroxyanisole, purified water.

Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics

Kanizon plus is a combined drug, the action of which is due to the properties of its constituent components - gentamicin, betamethasone, clotrimazole.

Gentamicin is a broad-spectrum antibiotic, belongs to aminoglycosides, has a bactericidal effect.

Betamethasone is a glucocorticosteroid that has anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, vasoconstrictor effects.

Clotrimazole is an antifungal agent for topical use, belongs to imidazole derivatives. Its action is due to a violation of the synthesis of ergosterol, which is an integral part of the fungal cell membrane.

Indications for use

  • allergic and simple dermatitis, complicated by secondary infection;
  • atopic dermatitis, including diffuse neurodermatitis;
  • limited neurodermatitis;
  • dermatomycosis (candidiasis, tinea versicolor, dermatophytosis), especially when localized in the groin and large folds of the skin;
  • eczema;
  • simple chronic lichen (limited neurodermatitis).

Contraindications

Absolute:

  • lupus;
  • cutaneous manifestations of syphilis, chickenpox, herpes simplex;
  • post-vaccination skin reactions;
  • open wounds;
  • age up to 2 years;
  • increased sensitivity to the components of the drug.

Relative:

  • pregnancy (I trimester);
  • age from 2 to 18 years.

Instructions for use of Kanizon plus: method and dosage

Kanizon Plus cream is applied externally, applying a thin layer to the affected skin and surrounding tissues twice a day, morning and evening. To achieve a lasting effect, the drug must be used regularly. The duration of treatment is determined individually and depends on the size and location of the lesion, as well as the patient's response.

In the case when improvement does not occur after 3-4 weeks of using Kanizon plus, it is advisable to consult a doctor to clarify the diagnosis.

Side effects

When using Kanizon plus cream, the following undesirable effects, which are very rare, were noted: pigmentation disturbance, burning sensation, itching, erythema, exudation.

Adverse reactions with topical application of glucocorticosteroids: dry skin, burning sensation, itching, folliculitis, hypopigmentation, hypertrichosis, acne, perioral dermatitis, allergic contact dermatitis, maceration and atrophy of the skin, development of a secondary infection, striae, prickly heat.

Adverse reactions noted with topical application of clotrimazole: tingling sensation, erythema, blistering, local edema, peeling, urticaria, itching, skin irritation.

Adverse reactions noted with local application of gentamicin: transient skin irritation that does not require discontinuation of the drug.

Overdose

In case of an overdose of glucocorticosteroids, suppression of adrenal function, the development of secondary adrenal insufficiency, the appearance of symptoms of hypercortisolism (including Cushing's syndrome) is possible.

Overdose of clotrimazole (when applied topically), as well as a single overdose of gentamicin, does not lead to the development of any symptoms.

With prolonged use of gentamicin in excessive doses, the growth of insensitive flora is possible.

Symptomatic treatment is indicated; correction of the water-electrolyte balance may be required. In the case of chronic glucocorticosteroid toxicity, gradual withdrawal of glucocorticosteroids is recommended.

It is recommended to interrupt drug treatment and start appropriate therapy in case of growth of resistant microflora, development of irritation, sensitization and development of superinfection during treatment.

Application during pregnancy and lactation

The appointment of the drug in the first trimester of pregnancy is contraindicated. Its use in the II and III trimesters is possible only as directed by a doctor.

Treatment with Kanizon plus during lactation requires special care, since the possibility of its excretion in breast milk has not been studied.

Pediatric use

According to the instructions, Kanizon plus for children is prescribed only under strict indications and under the supervision of a doctor. The use of the drug on large areas of the skin and with an occlusive dressing can suppress the function of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal system, a decrease in the excretion of growth hormone, and an increase in intracranial pressure.
