Bethiol belongs to the group of antihemorrhoidal drugs, has anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic and local analgesic effects.
Release form and composition
The drug is produced in the form of spherical rectal suppositories: dark brown with a characteristic smell of ichthyol, plaque is allowed on the surface (in blisters, 5 pcs., 2 packs in a cardboard box).
1 suppository contains:
- Active ingredients: belladonna extract (belladonna) - 0.015 g, ichthyol - 0.2 g;
- Excipients: solid fat type A or witepsol - in an amount sufficient to obtain a suppository weighing 1.17-1.29 g.

Instructions for the use of Betiol: method and dosage
The drug is applied rectally, before the introduction of the suppository, it is necessary to wash your hands and the skin around the anus.
The course of treatment and the dose is determined by the doctor individually for each patient. Adults and children over 14 years of age are prescribed 1 suppository 1 to 3 times a day. If necessary, the dose can be increased, but not exceed 10 suppositories per day.
Side effects
Betiol suppositories are well tolerated, sometimes in patients with hypersensitivity to the components of the drug, the following side effects may develop:
- Gastrointestinal tract: dry mouth, thirst, impaired taste, dysphagia, weakening of intestinal motility (up to atony), decreased tone of the biliary tract and gallbladder;
- Kidneys and ureters: difficulty and retention of urination;
- Heart and blood vessels: a significant increase in heartbeat, arrhythmia (including extrasystole), ischemia, redness of the skin (especially in the face), hot flashes;
- Neuralgia: headache, dizziness up to fainting;
- Organs of vision: dilated pupils, photophobia, accommodation paralysis, increased intraocular pressure;
- Respiratory organs: decreased secretory activity and bronchial tone (can lead to the formation of difficult expectorated viscous sputum);
- Epidermis: skin rash, urticaria, exfoliative dermatitis, hyperemia;
- Immune system: anaphylactic reactions (up to shock);
- Others: decreased sweating, dry skin, dysarthria.

Overdose
An overdose is manifested by the following symptoms: thirst, dry mouth, tachycardia, constipation, temporary visual impairment, including mydriasis. In especially severe cases, convulsions, psychomotor agitation and urinary retention may occur.
