Antiflu is a drug designed to eliminate cold symptoms and treat acute respiratory diseases. The drug has analgesic, antipyretic, anti-allergic, anti-inflammatory and vasoconstrictor effects.

Release form and composition

  • coated tablets (12 pcs. in blisters, in a cardboard box 1 blister);
  • powder for preparation of solution for oral administration (17 g in sachets, in a cardboard box 5 sachets).

Each pack also contains instructions for the use of Antiflu.

Composition of 1 tablet: paracetamol - 325 mg, phenylephrine hydrochloride - 5 mg, chlorphenamine maleate - 2 mg.

Composition of 1 sachet of powder for preparation of oral solution: paracetamol - 650 mg, phenylephrine hydrochloride - 10 mg and chlorphenamine maleate - 4 mg.

Pharmacological properties

Antiflu is a combined drug, the pharmacological effectiveness of which is due to the influence of its active components:

  • Paracetamol (analgesic and antipyretic of the anilide group): has antipyretic, analgesic and weak anti-inflammatory effect;
  • Phenylephrine hydrochloride (α-adrenergic agonist): due to the vasoconstrictor effect, it reduces hyperemia and swelling of the nasal mucosa and paranasal sinuses;
  • Chlorphenamine maleate (antihistamine, blocker of histamine H1 receptors): has antiallergic efficacy, relieves lacrimation, itching in the nose and eyes, reduces the severity of local manifestations of exudation.

Indications for use

Antiflu is used for the symptomatic treatment of influenza, colds and SARS.

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug;
  • Renal failure;
  • Portal hypertension;
  • Alcoholism;
  • Pregnancy;
  • Lactation period;
  • Children under 6 years of age (for tablets) and up to 12 years (for powder).

The drug should be used with caution in angle-closure glaucoma, bronchial asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, blood diseases, diabetes mellitus, hyperthyroidism, prostate adenoma (if there was a history of urination difficulties).

Antiflu, instructions for use: method and dosage

Tablets and powders for preparing hot drinks are taken by mouth.

Adults and children over 12 years old are recommended to take 1 tablet every 4 hours (6 times a day), the maximum daily dose is 8 tablets. For children from 6 to 12 years old, the dosage of the drug is calculated by the child's body weight (based on the paracetamol content - 10-15 mg per 1 kg of body weight). Roughly, children from 6 to 12 years old are recommended to take Antiflu 1 tablet 2 times a day with an interval of at least 6 hours.

The preparation in powder form should be dissolved in a glass of hot water. Adults and children over 12 years old can take a maximum of 4 packets per day.

The duration of admission should not exceed 3 days. In the absence of the desired effect (preservation of febrile temperature, intoxication), as well as when new symptoms of the disease appear, one should consult a doctor to establish an accurate diagnosis and correct treatment.

The use of Antiflu can cause allergic reactions, sleep disturbances, headache, dizziness, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, dry mouth, urinary retention.

Overdose

An overdose of the drug is usually caused by the intake of an increased dose of paracetamol (over 10-15 g per day) and has the following manifestations: pallor of the skin, lack of appetite, nausea, vomiting, pain in the upper abdomen. In severe cases, it is possible to develop liver failure, encephalopathy and coma. Treatment is reduced to gastric lavage, the appointment of enterosorbents and detoxification therapy.
